2010-2011 Season Predictions

Post by H-M 4 Life »

What teams will contend for the title next year? What teams will surprise?

I personally think that Hill-Murray and Edina will be the top teams next year. Apple Valley has a lot of young talent, but maybe Minnetonka will do an Edina on all of us and win the title without their Division 1 talent.

All I know is it will be another year of great high school hockey as it always it is.

The usual suspects; HM, Edina , Duluth east, EP, Wayzata. Look up the largest youth programs and toss in a few allstar teams and you'll find a pretty amazing correlation.

Class A has the same teams year in, year out. STA, Breck, Hermantown, Warroad, Duluth Marshall, Virginia, etc. The top 4 teams in section 7 should all be good again next year.

Hermantown loses lots of seniors, I'd say it'll be tough for them next year. That being said, Plante always has his teams ready to play.

I do not see Duluth East losing 7AA for at least 3 years, and they very well may have some championship contenders. They lose very few kids off of this years team, and with many talented juniors and seniors to be waiting in the wings, as well as a #1 in state Bantam A squad, the talent pool will be replenished. The only question mark is whether Welinksi stays or not.

Lakeville South should be good. Return a lot of firepower, assuming they all stay.

i agree with edina but i think warroad, losing nelson and hebel, will be tough since they were a majority of their scoring this season. they'll have a pretty good goalie next year but i dont see warroad coming out of section 8a next year

What if Edina loses Sit and Everson? Already won the State Tournament? Will they move on? Girard will be amazing to watch as a senior though.

Tonka has Schutt (definite D1 potential) and isn't Frawley a Jr? Also Wayzata will be strong, EP and Hill. AHA will not be a contender. How about DE?

Edina's underclassmen

Everson's brother stayed through his senior year. Don't know what the forecast is for Max.

This brings up an interesting question. Do you think Van Voorhis has any regrets? His friends just won the state title, something they'll never forget. Even if he's doing real well in Ann Arbor, I just don't know how much you can "fast track" the college or professional career of someone his size.

Maybe Edina doesn't lose anyone and gets Van Voorhis back? Wow, imagine that.
Be kind. Rewind.

That is true, Cloquet also made it to state out of the Region. Look for Cloquet and Grand Rapids to be contenders in 7AA in 2010-2011.

2A is gonna be a close one next year

Blake is gonna be a dangerous senior loaded team, only lose 4 or 5 seniors, return three goalies that all got time on the varsity team. Had a successful season with 18 wins and reaching the section championship, but they will be looking for revenge against rival Breck

Breck loses like 13 or 12 seniors and most of their key players like Russel, Fulton, Morin etc. It will be interasting to see what kind of team they put out next year. While they lose a lot of guys its not like they have no more talent to turn to.

Delano will probably be good again. A lot depends on if Heinonen stays and i havent heard anything about him leaving so ill assume he will. They lose an average number of seniors, like around 7, and a couple of key players including their goalie but with the scoring power of heinonen they will most likely be in the mix again

Never assume anything when it comes to East. There were seasons some of us thought they were a lock to go to state, and they fell short. Then there was this season where most people were focused on Elk River or Andover, and with good reason. The Elks had a ton of kids returning from the section runners-up and Andover had a huge group of seniors led by Decowski. In the end, the younger kids matured quickly for East and they got back to state.

Next year should be fun in 7AA. East, Cloquet and Rapids should all be stronger. Andover has a tough road ahead after graduating so many. As for Elk River and especially Forest Lake, don't count them out either. Assuming the combined Denfeld/Central gets put into 7AA, they'll have a very tough go of it, but the Talaricos can't be sold short. They'll also have a sophomore goalie who spent a year of seasoning, played well, and will be even better.

Man, I can't believe the tournament has only been over for a day and I'm already looking ahead to next season?! I need to get off the computer for a couple months. :) Maybe take a trip.

Without any research kind of just off the top of my head
top contenders from each section.
1AA
Lakeville South- Returning a lot of skill and their best line. Will be hungry from falling short this year.
Lakeville Noth- Defending the section title
Century?
2AA
The same top 4 teams as every year. Edina defending state champs. Burnsville and Jefferson both will have good squads next year. AHA after them
3AA
Apple Valley- Returing a lot of their guys next year. Should be a even better team. Defenite favorite.
Eagan- lost some seniors like Muck this year. But will be good again next year.
Anything on Woodbury and Cretin and what they're gaining or losing?
4AA
Hill-Murray and White Bear Lake section final. Like every other year..
5AA
Blaine loses something like 12 seniors. anyway Bjugstad will come back??
But im sure they will bounce back and be good.
Centennial is my favorite for the section right now. Osseo and Maple Grove took big strides this year.
6AA
Minnetonka loses a lot of D-1 guys this year, but they could do what Edina did this year.
Eden Prarie is my pick for this section as they will have a strong group of seniors next year. Wayzata should be really good too. And Benilde returns a lot of sophmores and juniors
7AA
Andover will be down from this year and i dont see them contending
Cloquet could have a good young team next year. Strong bantam team i believe. East are always contenders as is Elk River
8AA
Good year for Roseau getting to state as their first year under new coaching. Moorhead will obviously contend again. Anyone know what Brainard is bringing back next year?

It has been a good season and im looking forward to next year! and we never know what might happen this off-season. a team could work hard and get a lot better this off-season and become contenders!

I would add Rogers in the top ten next year they had a very young team this year and hit a few bumps. Rogers also had some successes against Cathedral 4-1 and Sartell 2-2. The biggest thing for Rogers is to shore up their goaltending. I look for Rogers to be a 1 or 2 seed next year in 5A.
