Section 6AA Final Eden Prairie vs. Minnetonka 3/3

Post by HockeyMN1 »

The massive early game of the two section finals at Target Center. Tonka won 1-0 last time in Tonka, gotta think Rau will step up for this game. So who wins? I'll take EP 4-3 in a classic.
EP two out of three.

6AA final

Post by blueblood »

here's some backround on the game:

Rematch of last year's 6AA final won by EP

Tonka won this year's in-season game 1-0 at Pagel

Tonka making their 5th appearance in last 7 years in section 6AA final

The EP junior class has won state titles 4 straight years (PWA, Bantam A, Bantam A, HS "AA"). Note: Has the Rau/McCartan group ever lost a playoff game?

Winner will get the #1 seed at state.

This is good as it gets.....

I agree BB - It does not get better. This is going to be another fantastic 6AA final.

Fantastic 6AA final... uhmmm... IMHO this IS the state tournament final pitting the top two AA teams in the state against each other. The state tourney final game just happens to be called the Section 6AA section final and is being played before the Tourney starts... I thought that EP should have been ranked #2 so this is #1 and #2 going at it. Should be a barn burner. I will bet the Target Center fills up on this one...

if i was minnetonka i would send a big D man like hesketh to just rock rau. I think this is reasonable for a wisco recruit and NHL draft pick to do to a 5'8" 160lbs kid. Not saying the kid has to do this with a cheap hit. Just send a message to rau who is 80% of the EP team. Who cares if he gets a roughing penalty this would change the whole game.

Tonka's Year

Post by Snap Shot »

I really like the way Tonka handled a tough BSM team today. If they bring that same brand of speed, physical play and attacking the net I think they will get by EP this year.

I'll take Tonka 5-3.

I also saw something today I didn't see in the last two years section playoffs with Tonka. Determination.

On the faces of the coaches and players. I think this team is mentally tough enough to get the job done this year.

Go ahead and send a goon out to take a stupid penality

Wayzata took a run at the K Rau kid, but he didn't miss his next shift. Smaller, but very tuff. EP power play is clicking. If Tonka wants to goon it up against EP, they will defeat Tonka on the power play opportunities. I think EP may miss the olympic sheet at the U of M sheet as I think they have more speed on the open ice sheet. The Target Center sheet probably plays more in the Tonka advantage. EP may have developed a 2nd and possibly a 3rd line that can score goals against Tonka. This will be a great sectional final game. Rogge and Ericison didn't play a good game against Wayzata. They were their and got some shots, but look for them to step up their play. EP 3-2 in a very close game. Ford plays better over Krueger.

Either number 16 or 18 took a checking from behind penalty today and got kicked out so he will miss the section final. BIG was packed and they only had a scoreboard on one end so I couldn't really tell but I thought it was 18. I don't know much about this kid. Anyone have any idea what effect, if any this will have on Tonka? He played a regular shift so I am just curious. Thanks!

tonka

18 is their 2nd line center. tonka adjusted their lines following that penalty.

lakeviewwing: I'm with you on the TC vs. Mariucci angle. Not many teams can play or practice on olympic ice (eagan, ep, jefferson). Tonka has proven 2nd and 3rd lines.

I'm sticking with my club in a low scoring game.

3-1 (en)
Tonka Goals by Frawley, Holl and Schutt.
Kruger with 24 saves.

Goal by Rogge. Ford with 26 saves.

I wouldn't recommend trying to run Rau. The kid is tough as nails, Everson tried it in the Edina game and ended up out for 3 weeks. Minnetonka has the horses to beat EP straight up, getting side tracked trying to rough #7 is a poor plan. Hit him if its there but you start chasing him he'll hurt you even worse.

Yea I'd be shocked if the winner of this game doesn't end up as state champs in two weeks. These are far and away the best two teams in the state. And if EP wins people better start saying threepeat cause it's not like their losing a lot next year and the junior class hasn't lost come playoff time in a looooong time.
EP two out of three.

Lakeviewing is delusional. Tonka has as much speed as EP without question so the ice sheet wouldn't matter. As for line depth, Tonka has 13 players with 11 or more points, EP has 11 players with 11 or more. As far as penalties, Tonka won't goon it up but if they do draw some penalties their PP is one of the best in the state at 90.8%.
