My Pet Peeves about youth Hockey

Post by gdahl »

I begin this thread as a response to another thread where I believe the emphasis of coaching skating at the mite level is under emphasized. I have seen too many kids who do not have the basic skating levels at squirt, peewee, bantam, and yes even High School. My first Pet Peeve I list is as inadequate teaching of skating technique at the Mite levels.

My second Pet Peeve about youth Hockey is gate fees at tournaments. Gate fees have to go away.

I do have other Pet Peeves but I am leaving the door open for you to post away on your pet peeves in the hope that we can learn what people do not like to give them what they do like.

40 degree days when the calendar says it's winter, and people who think those days are something to be happy about.

Park & Rec departments stopping outdoor ice maintenance when it's still cold out.

Practices where the kids spend so much time standing around that they never break a sweat.

Buzzers/horns on scoreboards that can wake the dead.

3 game tournaments.

Having to buy multiple pairs of the same size skates and gear because the younger kids are catching up in size to the oldest.

Driving 250 miles to play teams from neighboring communities.

Getting to the rink and realizing that 1 piece of equipment didn't make the trip.

All the association gear being predominantly black when black is not the community's color.

The other players performing better when I know my kid is far superior. :P

Fans sitting on the wrong side or spreading along the entire top row. WI teams seem to do this alot.
