Super Rink Meeting - Girls Hockey in Seattle

Post by joehockey »

Last night I was at the Super Rink and ran into the Seattle SnoKings U19 (or U16?) team. They had a girl goaltender '93 who was very good. They are in town over the weekend to play boys teams including Shattuck, visit Universities and to watch the WCHA Final 5.

I had a chance to talk to the goalies father. She is a very good a '93 who made the U15 National Camp last year - her only option in Seatle is boys hockey. He was amzed at the Super Rink - he said they only have 7 rinks all single sheets on the west side of Washington State. He really liked the HBTC, FHIT program and all the training. He said there are only 3,000 hockey players in Washington and was stunned to hear there were +13,000 girls playing in HS or youth leagues in MN. He said his daughter's team plays about 60 games and the cost to be on the team is $15,000 plus travel. He said they play in a BC League and bus up on school nights to play they often return home after 2 AM. He was stunned when I told him the cost of MN HS hockey ranging from $100 to $300 or so.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a talented player like this move to MN - we are so lucky with all the options and relative low costs here in Minnesota.
