Ideas for MSHSL

Post by ndirishfighting »

with the mshsl idiots rearranging the sections and teams optin up and down, here is my thought.
JUST A IDEA TO THROW OUT THERE

*there is about 160 registered schools in mn with hockey including private schools.
*have 8 regular sections and about 18-20 teams in each section.
*add 1 more sections so private schools dont get neglected.
*so total 9 sections.
*you have to play everyone in your section atleast once, all for the purpuse of playoff seeding, the other games would be up to you to go find and decide who you wanna play
*come playoff time seed and play, champion and runner up or another game between runner up and third place to see who is the second team to represent that section.
*after all sections are decided, comes the tricky part.
THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS CHAMPION AND SECOND TEAM HAVE TO PLAY THE BEST PUBLIC SCHOOLS TOP TWO TEAMS TO GET INTO THE STATE TOURNEY. OR THEY CAN GO CRY AND HAVE THERE OWN TOURNEY
*come tourney time, you would have a fri and sat at the X and the winners followin week you would have thurs - sat at the X.
* NO CHANNEL 45, NO LOU NANNE, NO CLAY MATVICK, NO SAME CRAP IN BETWEEN PERIODS
*WCCO, ESPN, FSN OR NHL NETWORK TELEVISE, H.S. MUSIC VIDEOS, AND A PAST STORY ABOUT EACH TEAM IN THE TOURNEY
*THE BIGGEST OF ALL OF IT ..........................................................

ONE

CLASS

SYSTEM

Will not happen. MSHSL deals with all sports and will not make a one class system for just hockey.

Also would not discriminate against private schools just for hockey.

Also no way you would get ESPN, Fox or WCCO to fork out the money Hubbard is paying to broadcast the tourney. Instead of putting pressure on MSHSL, a letter writing (email) campaign should be staged to Hubbard or some other execs at Hubbard broadcasting to upgrade the broadcasts. It looks like they Brown School dropouts to runt he cameras do the production.

I don't see how you could possibly put all the private schools in the same section, either. Then you would be having Rochester Lourdes and Duluth Marshall in the same section, which is a little ridiculous.

And another part of this that is totally ridiculous is having to play every team in your section! Why would any of the top teams in a section want to drop some quality opponents to play lesser ones? What possible good could come from that?

Welcome to the Tier I Tier II system.

We all know how well that worked.

Talked with my buddy in Pittsburg PA and they use a three class program. We only have two;we will be fine.

I cannot imagine that PA has MORE high school with hockey programs than MN?

Take a look at the Pennsylvania High School Hockey forum link also?

Get a better way to classify teams. How can Warroad, Breck, STA, and many others with tradition and facilities be A, and coop schools have to play AA. Look at first round section games and tell me that the MHSL really cares. Enrollment is the only factor in determining which class you're in. What a bunch of BS.

Why yes dear, I could tell you why the record player is broken.

It's not the 1990's anymore, we have better ways of doing things.

If you think it's bad that Cooper has to be in AA, think if Austin had to play EP.

Just because Breck, Warroad and STA do well each year doesn't mean it's unfair. It means they're consistent. Should we move the Roseau's Edina's Tonka's and so on up to a third class because they do well each year? No. So what's the difference?

The horse is dead, so keep your complaints and hand gernades, ain't nothin' gonna change on a stinkin' message board.
Stay Classy, Minnesota.

It's that way in all sports, I doubt the MSHSL is going to make an exception just for hockey, especially after their experience with Tier I and Tier II a few years back.

At least the way it is now you have some really good teams playing in the Class A tournament. If there weren't any good A teams who would care?

What are the better ways of doing things?? The classification idea was brought up before the 90's.

Another thought...

How about a invitational trny at the end of the year for teams that don't make it to state? Kinda like college bball and the N.I.T. Have a great facility like the little Ralph put it on. Give some kids a few more games on the schedule to maybe keep them from jumping to juniors early.

I'm sure alot of section runnerups would love to play a few more games. It would never come close to the big show, but it adds a few games to the schedule for another 8 teams. Mix up some AA with some quality A schools that came up a bit short. Probably a crazy idea, plus it could become very political when deciding who gets in. Maybe I'm wrong but my guess is it would draw a big enough crowd to pay the bills.

I just think of that arena in TRF and wonder why there isn't a high quality Christmas Trny there or some a big weekend of hockey of some sort.

You all need to GET OVER IT!! The 2 class system is here to stay and they will NEVER EVER go back to a one class system. Personally, I hated the 2 class system at first, the class A portion of the tournament was bad, very little skill. Over the years it has gotten dramatically better and exciting. Whether or not you like the private schools, they bring a highly skilled game to the tournament that is very enjoyable to watch. Even if you dont like the teams just watching the skill is wonderful. So PLEASE drop it would ya, your beating a dead horse to a pulp!!

The potential for a one class system exists and could (not probable) happen.

The idea is simple the process would be difficult (if not impossible).

Simple, every school that plays hockey and is not classified as a AA school has the right to 'opt up'.
If every A school opted up, we would have a one class tournament.

Okay so not everyone will opt up, BUT

If the top 3 or so in every section did that, you would have a one class tournament.

A Tier II event would be held at the same time but would not draw as well.

Everyone but Apollo should opt up.

I take that back. They'd probably still struggle to win the A tourney.

There wouldn't be any A teams to get invited. Can you imagine putting Alex on the ice with a team like Bloomington Jefferson?

I like the idea minus the A teams.

This years tourney would have been:
Bloomington Jefferson
Minnetonka
Centennial
Maple Grove
Holy Angels
Wayzata
Elk River
BSM

Pretty solid line up.

i dont know about you but i've been noticing a few games have been getting out of hand in the past few years, i think legalizing fighting could help reduce the number of cheap shots. i kno they will never do it but i think a 1 fight rule would be reasonable. players are allowed to fight however doing so results in being ejected from the game, they are still ellegible to play in the next game. you could also put regulations on the number of fights per game per team or per year per player. if you regulate it you could let the players police themselves without encouraging teams to start the hanson brothers. i kno it'll never happen but hey i can dream cant i?
enjoy this post while it lasts....

I would rather have gone to this tourney than the state tourney this year... 8)
