Advance 16 Festival

Post by bloody bar down »

Does anyone know why the Adv 16 festival is the same weekend as the Bantam VFW State tourney?

I do understand that that this does apply for all 93's, and that the Jan thru June kids played HS / JV hockey this year. But, there will be many players that are June thru December 93's that are not able to compete as they are on top teams playing in the VFW state. Moorhead, Bemidji, Duluth East, Jefferson, Lakeville So, Wayzata just to name a few... Is it because of USA Hockey? I would like to believe that if it was MN Hockey they would have looked a little closer to the schedules of bantam tournaments.

Elliott, maybe you can shed some light on this?

Thanks..

That is a great question....difficult choice for all players affected.

I know some tryouts are also the weekend of the real state tournament but it really shouldn't be that difficult of a decision. Any player who would leave his team during the state tournament to try out for a different team really shouldn't be looked at as a top player. Yes he may have skill but remember this is a team sport. If you dessert your team at that point in the season you really can't be looked at as one of the best.

Agreed. You would think that in the wisdom of MN Hockey they would have at least looked at these conflicts and given all of those players the chance to participate by choosing a different date.

Maybe they did and it just has to be this way... I don't know.

I asked the question of the people that set this up.

I was told they would find a way to evaluate the kids that could not make it so they would be included in the next round, if applicable.

Many of us are not happy.
