Mound-Westonka(17-10) @ Breck(23-3-1) 3-5-09 2A Final
Breck is 18-1 in their last 19 games. These two teams have not met this season. Should be a close match up.
If breck is going to win the next game they need to stay out of the box. they are very sloppy and took 3 penalties in their offensive zone. this has been their weakness all year, they should use their speed and stop getting in the box. good teams will eat them alive. maybe some of those guys should sit if they can't play smarter........

Breck will kill Mound. Breck has lost 3 games this season and they are not about to roll over and give up.. Mound does not have the defense or the goaltending to keep up with the speed of virtually every single Breck forward. Mound will rely heavily on Horgan to do the job and if he doesn't...mound's season will be over.

There was a lot of buzz about the uneven calling of penalties in both games tonight. Mound won but they had a lot of bad calls also. In the Breck game Rogers had a pass on penalties. It's too bad when that happens especially in close games, no matter who you are cheering for you hate to see reffing decide a game. Lucky for Breck and Mound, that wasn't an issue tonight. Mound played a great game tonight with weak goaltending sealing the deal for an Orono loss but if the goalie had been able to stop anything the ref's would have handed this game to Orono. I don't know where you get sloppy from, the team looked tight and comfortable. Like Mound, they looked like they were there to win. If you are going to sit guys for penalties they have to actually be penalties, not bad calls, or just plain old fashioned physical hockey.coach95 wrote:If breck is going to win the next game they need to stay out of the box. they are very sloppy and took 3 penalties in their offensive zone. this has been their weakness all year, they should use their speed and stop getting in the box. good teams will eat them alive. maybe some of those guys should sit if they can't play smarter........

Mound is a decent team. They don't have the talent Breck's first two lines have, but they are a threat. It's sections, anything can happen!Backhandtoepull wrote:Breck will kill Mound. While anything can happen in sections, I agree it would be a huge upset for Mound to win this one. They simply don't have enough talent on D to keep up with the Breck forwards speed and the Breck D (who didn't play as well as usual tonight) will smother Horgan and company. Oh and if thats not enough they have one of the top goalies in the Metro as well.Backhandtoepull wrote:Breck will kill Mound. 6-2 Mustangs and a 2 or 3 seed at the X
I remember watching Russell last year, and boy is that kid a freaking wall. He smothers up those rebounds too..which is a nice asset in a goalie. Gonna be a tough one for Mound...lets see what happens.Goldy23 wrote:While anything can happen in sections, I agree it would be a huge upset for Mound to win this one. I was impressed with the play of Colin Mayer. He missed time due to injury this year, but is now back with the club. Comparing tuesdays game vs Orono, and the one on February 10th, the White Hawks looked completely different. Several other players stepped up. Ben Curti and Colin Mayer amoung them. They will need to step up if Mound is to hang with Breck.
Breck is still the favorite, no question. Their defense is much stronger than what Mound has likely faced this year, and thus the scoring opportunities will be fewer. However, if the Mustangs take penalties, Mound will make them pay.

Mound could pull off an upset they are coming off a hot streak although they do only have one real top line if the rest of the team and the d hold tough and don't take too many penalties they have a real shot
Breck is the team to beat only three loses during the season but didn't play any top twenty teams in their final stretch their goaltending is always solid so the only thing they need to do is stay out of the box and they should win
Breck 4-3 in a close game

I hate to burst your bubble but that "much of girls" that you saw has not been shut out once this year and they were held to less than 3 goals only 3 times all year! So I kind of doubt that a team with average at best defense and questionable goaltending is going to shut out a #1 seed that has averaged 6 goals per game through out the regular season. It's going to be a lopsided affair much like last year. Breck in a 6-3 victory.
p.s. R. Horgan is a very exciting player but he just doesn't have the surrounding cast to take it to the next level

I take it you have lost to Breck. Sounds like bitterness. Your score prediction is just folly.windowsxp wrote:Breck is a much of girls from what i saw....you get in there head they will lose it and start to do dumb things..plus if mound jumps on them quick and breck isnt ready who knows what can happen.....mound 2 breck 0
While Mound can come on strong and anything can happen, it's hard to imagine them beating Breck. The only real weakness Breck has shown was in their first game against Delano. They had two or three anchor players not playing until the second period, looked like they were maybe resting injuries, or maybe giving weaker players a chance in sections in a game they knew they would win, but when those three players took the ice it was over. No doubt Breck needs to stay out of the box, but it's tough to do that when the penalties are questionable at best.
Breck should take this game. Breck 5 Mound 2.
So every call you'd made last night, from the Breck side of the arena, was the right one? I must admit, I missed a few. But I'm certain I had an off-sides that was missed.stuckinthebox wrote:I take it you have lost to Breck. Sounds like bitterness. My dad and I went to the games at Parade last night. Other than parking 1/2 mile away, it was enjoyable. They could use more concession stands.
#9 from Mound was fun to watch. #8 from Orono...that's one tough SOB. That was pretty much football on ice. Lots of hitting. The better team ended up winning.
Five minutes into the second game I thought it would finish 9-2. I was surprised, but happy, to see Rogers hang around. I didn't want to watch a blowout. Like a previous poster said, Breck became sloppy (at times) and took careless penalties.
It's tough to judge two teams off one game. But I'll do it- Breck wins by 2.5 goals. Breck seemed to have more team speed.

I'm not sure of what you are saying? The penalties were definitely lopsided. Not all, but many were bad calls, period. That is a completely unbiased opinion, I don't know a player on either side personally. There are always a few missed calls, a few over reactive calls, but there were at least four penalties called against Breck that were inexpert. I agree it was good to see Rogers stay in it for the same reasons you listed. As a hockey fan you always hate to see ref's try to even the game by loading penalties on guys who wouldn't be called in any other game.skiumah wrote:So every call you'd made last night, from the Breck side of the arena, was the right one? With the statements you made I assumed your a biased fan, since all your calls were correct (for and against Breck). I, too, am an expert ref. While sitting 30 rows up in the Metrodome, and after drinking 5 or 6 beers, I can call the game better then those B10 officials.stuckinthebox wrote:I'm not sure of what you are saying? I really only remember one penalty from last night. #2 from Mound, the kid was probably 6 feet & 155lbs., throwing an elbow at #8 from Orono. That was about the only chance that Mound kid had, otherwise he would have been flattened.
Why can't these kids check without getting their hands up? Every hit seems to be led with their gloves to the face.
#2 on Mound is Nick Kuehl. #8 for Orono is Brett Skoog. Kuehl is 6'1", around 170lbs. Skoog is 5'11" and probably around 170lbs as well.skiumah wrote:With the statements you made I assumed your a biased fan, since all your calls were correct (for and against Breck). It was probably just a little love tap from Kuehl after Skoog took a run at Horgan.

Nope. Season over for us. This is just a great time of year to see teams you don't get to see otherwise. I've heard a lot about Breck's first two lines so I came to see them play. 98% of the time I don't have a problem with ref's, like I said I just don't like to see them penalize to even out a game. Breck commanded the game Tuesday night but had it been closer the ref's would have done a disservice to the Breck guys if they called it that way in a closer game. Should be a good game tonight, could go either way. Breck needs to keep those first two lines intact, neutralize #9 and work the goalie. Mound needs to get in the way of the speed on this team. Breck has a big checking forward on their first line, watch him and try to stop the speed of these guys by getting in their way, and again, work the goalie. Too close to call, a Breck win in OT is my guess. Hope it's a good one.skiumah wrote:With the statements you made I assumed your a biased fan, since all your calls were correct (for and against Breck). I, too, am an expert ref.
