Gophs ride the momentum of the last 11 minutes of last weekend sweep and somehow end up with home ice after an eventfull second-half.
Gophers have been feasting on Huskies all season.

U of M 4-1 and 3-0

The Gophs need a sweep and everyone knows it. They go out and get it this weekend. 4-1, 3-1

Weekend sweep??? Now you're taking more points then you get? It was only 3 of 4 points last weekend and everyone has been feasting on the huskies all season... well except the gophers nearly didnt at the start of the season when they were at home but we all forgot about that now didnt we? I hope that tech pulls out 2 ties out of this weekend somehow just to set a really high tie record :D

My bad I meant they will come off of last weekend with momentum and sweep Tech. And by Huskies I was talking about St. Cloud State and Michigan Tech Huskies. Didn't think I needed to explain it but then again you are a UMD fan. :D

Tech is usually a better team at home. They aren't good, but they compete, and they will this weekend.

FRIDAY
Gophs 2, Tech 2

SATURDAY
Gophs 5, Tech 1

minnesota's only bright spot in the whole 2nd half of the season was their sweep over St. Cloud but then again techs was their near win the saturday of the Sat/Sun series at Marriucci the first half of the season. Since the New Years tournament when they beat Northeastern this team has shown nothing more then 1 period of quality play at a time. If UMD doesnt have home ice advantage there's no other team in the league that i'd want them to go to then Minnesota because they cant seem to find out how to put a game together anymore... Maybe it's the fact that their fans are a bunch of bandwagon jumpers who need a good dump off this year... :D

Maybe so but it was enough to take 3 points from your Dawgs.

Road series are never easy. There's a reason for that. Yes they took 3 of 4 but they were also the home team. It's a lot easier to win at home then on the road

So its hard to win on the road. And UMD will most likely be on the road. So they most likely dont stand a chance? Is this what your trying to tell me?

this is a great series for the gophers to get momentum and there gonna need a good performance to carry over into the first round of the WCHA tourny... otherwise the X might be lacking attendence due to no gophers...

1. The likelyhood of UMD being on the road depends completely on this weekend a sweep (decent chance at home versus AA) would likely put them at home although not guarentee it. Anything less would likely put home ice in jeopardy because 4-5 will likely be around 29-31 points at the end of the weekend.
2. Most road teams will not win so if they're not at home I'd love it to be at Minnesota because they're the worst team that has a chance at home ice.

I love the Gophs, but that was the worst goaltending performance I have ever seen by the maroon and gold.
You gotta be kidding me.

I agree. The offense can only keep up for so long.
Maybe home ice just wasn't meant to be.

My unshakable belief in the Golden Gophers Hockey Team is beginning to crumble. Not that I am mad and want to blame someone but what the *%#@ is going on? If the Gophers can't go into Tech and knowing they needed the win for home ice and just dominate them then they are not the team I thought they were.

Whether it be Michigan Tech, North Dakota, or anyone else for that matter, it's hard to win on the road in the WCHA. You have to be playing your best hockey at the right time. The Gophers aren't. They won't go down easy. They should make some noise in the WCHA playoffs; just like last year.

Of course winning on the road is hard. My point is the better teams are going to go into a weaker teams barn and beat them down. When home ice for the playoffs is at stake that beat down should be even more pronounced. When you are the Gophers you are EXPECTED to beat a team like Tech. No excuses.

WCHA record: Michigan Tech 2-18-7...

Stick a fork in my beloved Gophers...

What has happened to this pathetic team...

The biggest problem is that there are problems at every position...

Goalies have become sieves...
Dmen can't play the body, small, and having puck problems in their own zone...
Forwards can't put puck away when needed, they can't find the ability to cover the weak side opponent back checking, leaving forwards alone coming down the slot...
And the coaching has become non-existent...

1st and 2nd liners are not playing to thier potential
3rd and 4th liners have players that may not belong in the WCHA
Blue chip blueliners that look as if they need to hone their skills at the bantam level...

Love 'em... Want them to improve and win so bad... But so frustrating to watch this year...

Question is... can they turn this around next year... :?:
