U12A District OT rules

Post by royals dad »

My daughter has a lot of friends on the U12A team from Hopkins. This team really struggled at the begining of the year but was getting better and by the end was a really competetive team. In districts they ended up in a tie with WBL. They were suprised to find out that they were required to win it outright in the first OT as they were the lower seed. They ended up giving up an open netter in OT to end thier season.

Not sure if this is the right way to end a season after a team works hard all year. Is this just to keep things on schedule? Seems like you could buy an hour and a half of ice and let the kids play a few OTs or maybe a shout out.

Not taking anything from WBL just seems like a bad way to run a district playoff. Should be changed for next year.

Agree. This is a tough way to end for a team, especially when they work hard all season to improve in the end.

We have pulled our goalie in a tie game before in a tournament, but it was pool play and we had to win. But this was a regular season tournament, and not the district playoffs.
