ssm kills us
why do all of you want our highschool players to stay at their schools when our state just took a butt wipping from those turds at ssm. We could kill them with our first lines form a ten suare mile radios. In other words, why not frown on our hockey players leaving to the next level to be better than ssm. I played at CYA in IL and got free college so why frown at our own that want something better than being killed by ssm. I am embarssed by our hockey in highschool here in msp and I know any one of my former teams AAA IL would kill our top teams. Go juniors or AAA or somwhere else. msp sucks for a top team to compare to AAA midjets
And of course, all the teams in Illinois play down to a championship that packs an NHL arena, right?
I was watching a Chicago Steel game two years ago and the Illinois state high school tournament was going on next door in the smaller of the two arenas.
I've seen more spectators at a Pee Wee B game in Minnesota

I'm sure if AHA played Team USA they would get their butts whipped too... Your paragraph, if you can call it that, makes no sense. Big difference between a highschool in a town of 300 producing good teams and a "college" school made up of all stars from everywhere in the US producing good teams. And Shattuck would probably get killed by Juniors teams too while we are at it. Minnesota Highschool Hockey is the best in the US, but that doesn't mean we should kill teams made of the best players in the US...
Go Hounds.

Rufus reads as though he/she is a dufus. Not only is his/her hockey second class, it appears that his/her education is too.

rufus- you are an idiot. Mn highschool hockey is the best in the country. What is embarrasing is an All Star team (Shattuck) losing to BSM last year. This years game against BSM could have went either way. What this says is the top Mn highschool teams can compete against all star teams across the country and they are only picking from the 40 or so players that come out for hockey in that community. Team Illinois lost to Shattuck a couple weeks ago 8-1. If we took the top players from BSM, Edina, Minnetonka and Eden Prarie they would beat any AAA team or Midget team.
My earlier point is that in Illinois, hockey is a "niche sport," with very few people interested in it beyond those who participate.
In minnesota, we are the "state of hockey," with thousands of players throughout the state, not to mention the many fans who turn out to see a game between even a pair of middle-of-the road high school teams.
Minnesota has plenty of talent. I would guess that an all-conference team from most AA conferences or even some of the A conferences would give shattuck a good game. In illinois, all the good players are spread out throughout the Chicago area and are on a few teams. In Minnesota, we have outstanding players spread out all through the state, from Roseau to Red Wing and Rochester to Roseville.
If you're looking for "elite hockey" played by skilled players in a sterile arena with no crowd or atmosphere, go to a AAA game. If you're looking for good hockey played by high school students who have a passion for the game and and play in front of hundreds - sometimes thousands of cheering fans showing their community and school spirit...then go to a Minnesota high school game.
The game I was at tonight had a packed arena, a rowdy crowd, lots of thrilling plays and at least two Division-I bound players. I got my money's worth (Or would have, had I paid to get in.)
end of rant

You went to college? I have a hard time believing that.rufus1 wrote:why do all of you want our highschool players to stay at their schools when our state just took a butt wipping from those turds at ssm. Elite League
SSM went 9-3-3 in the Elite League this fall.
So, yes, a team made up of a districts best players can beat SSM and no doubt would compete nationally, especially considering by this age, most kids are off in 10 different directions.
I went to the game yesterday and the biggest glaring thing I noticed was that SSM was rolling it's 4 lines while AHA had 2 that seemed to be on the ice a lot. Midway through the 2nd period, AHA players were bent over gassed on their way off the ice while SSM players were flying off the bench.
Reilly #4 (there's like 10 of them) stood out on D, real nice hands and footwork. Mattson had some chances, if he had a guy on his line like the SSM first line duo, he'd be more dangerous. SSM goalie was shaky. Shots were 45-14 with a minute left when I left the rink, but AHA had at least 4 really really good scoring chances that the whole crowd was like "OOOOOOOOOOOwwwwwwwwwwww".

What Tenoverpar points out is probably the biggest issue comparing SSM to a MSHSL league team, and why ever being able to beat them is such a feat. I'm just guessing, but I'd say that most 4th liners on the SSM team would make most varsity squads in MN. They have 4th solid lines. MN teams, even the best don't have that depth, and some only run three lines. Comparing AHA's top line to SSM's, SSM probably isn't that much better, but they can out skate the rest of the lines.

uh
Carry this through by replacing high school hockey with elite Midget hockey and you take away the opportunity for about 90% of kids to play. Yeah, you could do that.
Why?
Why?
Be kind. Rewind.
