Girls In-House Programs

Post by Rocket78 »

How many associations have in-house programs that do not travel? Rochester has a girls in-house program that consists of 5 teams. The teams are relatively balanced with girls ages 8-14. They are registered as 14UB (rec or house or something like that). They share practices and have a game per week. This is the place where Rochester is growing their numbers. Is there anything comparable around the state?

I know of some programs that do this on the boys side but other than Rochester I have never heard of it on the girls side, unless you are talking mites. In many of the big programs like Edina there is no interest in an in house program (except for mites). If girls (mostly from Edina and Bloomington) do not want to play traveling hockey as a U10 they have the option to sign up for the Peewee program at MN Made which is an "in-house" program that is designed to be more about development than games. The kids get more ice at less cost since there is no traveling and the fees associated with Association hockey. This is not a USA Hockey sanctioned program but MN Made does a pretty good job with skills development. Most parents I talked to swear by the program.
