Jefferson vs Edina fairy tail match-up
So unfortunatly if these two teams play it won't be till the section playoffs. But let's pretend for a minute that they played next weekend in a non-conference show down. Who do you think wins and why?

Tough to say, both are very good teams and I think this game could go either way.
However, I have to say Jefferson. They are the right team to beat Edina. Jefferson has its talent stacked in its Defense, as Edina is stacked at forwards. Every coach I have every had has always told me, a great defense beats a great offense every time. If this game hapend with Zach Budish and Joe Gleason (yes I realized he already graduated, just saying) entering the game, I would go Hornets, but unfortunately they are without both.
I think Jefferson has more depth as well, Hill's depth was what brought down Edina and I think running multiple lines successfully at Edina is how to beat them.
If this game happend next week, I say Jags 5-4 in a thriller

My opinion is this, you compare the two teams and you find a gold mine of talent. Edina's top line proved in the Schwans Cup that they are indeed the top line in the state in my mind. It's unfortunate not everyone could see Jefferson's line with Herbert, Knight, and Dietzlar because they are very talneted as well.
But my overall breakdown is this:
Forwards- both teams have depth and that what makes them so good. With the edge in talent leaning towards Edina I'd give the nod to them.
Defenseman- Edina has a good defense but they don't have to work as hard to keep them in games because of their high power offense. Jefferson has 3 very talented defenseman and so far they have played a huge part in their success. Nod goes to Jefferson
Special Teams- Once again, very hard to compare. Both have awesome powerplays and Edina knows how to put the puck in the net. Jefferson has a great penalty kill and knows how to block shots. But if i had to choose one I'd pick Edina's
Goaltending- Both are new starting goalies for their teams but you have to like the kid who has only allowed 10 goals all year for Jefferson in Casey O' Conner. Nod goes to Jefferson
So far this looks to be an amazing match-up on paper but until sections (if they meet) we can only dream about it.
My prediction (with maybe a little bias)
Jefferson 4
Edina 3

Prediction,
Edina and Jefferson go 1-2 the rest of the way building up the section Championship matchup. Jefferson has it all figured out, they bring in Saterdahl for a pregame pep speech along with a few of the Baby-Blus faithful maybe even a Papa Bianchi sighting.
Edina hits the ice for warm-ups nothing new just the thoughts of what happened last season with Hill and the desire to get back.
Both teams retire to the dressing rooms for the start of the 1st period. As the teams come back out to skate around the Jags start to notice there is a certian #22 dressed and skating. The starting lineups are announced and low and behold
Starting at Center for the Edina Hornets ...................#22 ......Zach......Buddish.
Edina wins 6 - 2 as they are fired by the return of thier leader.

Budish: Coach
Giles: Yeah
Budish: I woke up and the pain was gone.
Giles: Zach, I'm sorry but we already have a full roster
Anders Lee: Coach, he can have my spot.
Giles: OK, Anders, I want you right next to me, coaching.
Guess we can all keep dreaming.
Forwards
Everson, Gaarder, Lee over Herbert, Dietzler, Knight
Taft, Sit, Eppel over Siiro, Gallus, Knutson
2-0 Edina
Defense
Faust, LaBombard over Jarret, Regan
Baker, Van Voorhis over Pauluk, Cline
1-1 Tie
Goalie
Ankeny and O'Connor tie
Edina 3-1-1
I would predict the score to be about 5-2 Edina if they played

Unlike last year, Edina is really using its depth to its advantage, rolling 3 quality lines/pairings on both offense and defense. Sure, there's no Budish, Gleason, or Caschetta, but the end result appears like more of a team that still has plenty of top-end talent. Combined with their significant edge in experience in big games, I'd think Edina would win, 4-2 or something like that.

i'm not so sure about that. and even if everson, gaarder, and lee are better than herbert, dietzler, and knight, it's not by much.The51 wrote:Forwards

Taft line over Gallus line? no way
but ever crazier is your Baker over Pauluk line, and Ankeny over O'Connor
Edina is a good team that is capable of beating Jefferson, but they wont do it by those matchups and it wont be done by 5-2, 5 would be half the goals O'Connor has allowed all season and 5 goals on Jefferson's Defense is not looking likely in any one game this season
Sorry guys - gotta go with The51 on this. While I really like Jefferson's first line (especially Herbert) there is no way they are better than Edina's first line - those boys are just too strong and talented against anyone right now.
With the pairing of Eppel, Sit and Taft, Edina has themselves a strong second line (correcting the biggest mistake they made last year in my humble opinion) and the third line is mostly fast and creative. Agree with the goalies - probably a draw. Coaching may factor in too though but I give the edge to Edina in a close, well fought game. Edina 4-3 over Jefferson. And Budish back on the ice by sections ... everyone in the great state of MN can dream - this IS a fantasy post.

Edina's first line is the best in state and at this point better than Herbert's line, but Herbert's line is still very solid. There is no way that taft's line is better than gallus's line. Gallus's line has put up 45 points in 10 games and Taft's line has put up 29 points in 12 games. Gallus and Siiro are top 20 forwards in the senior class and there is no way Eppel(only 7 points) is better than them. I'll agree on the goalies are even. The defensive matchups for Jefferson are Faust, Pauluk, and LaBombard, Cline. This would be a very fun game to watch , but at this point in the season I would have to take Edina 3-2 in OT. Hope we get to see this one for real with the trip to state on the line.

I haven't seen Jefferson play, but Edina sure looked tough to beat against Holy Angels. I have not seen a team that can cycle the puck better and wait for the perfect opportunity. Lee looked like the best player in the state imo, but Jefferson has a couple good lines that could at least slow down Edina's first. This would be quite a game.

As long as we are dreaming, neither makes it to state before I wake up!dynamicD wrote:So unfortunatly if these two teams play it won't be till the section playoffs. But let's pretend for a minute that they played next weekend in a non-conference show down. Who do you think wins and why?

well the matchups are all wrong
first it would be the gallus line vs. the lee line and edina would win there but the herbert line would kill taft's line. and knight is a lot better then your giving him credit for you can't have three herbert's on a line.
all though edina has solid defensemen they cannot matchup with any of the 4 jefferson d.
and o'connor has played much better then expected this year while im not so sure about ankeny
so i would jefferson has a much better defensive core it would be a very tight game cant wait for it in sections.

I disagree about Edina's defense. Baker is probably one of the top Defensemen in the state. He is small and doesn't project well to the next level, so he is underrated. His pairing is better than Pauluk's but he would be in the 1st d paring and would not be as good as Faust's pairing and then the second Edina pairing is not as good as Pauluk's.
Edina just got two D back from injuries and so I don't mention Baker's partner, but I assume it would be Van Voorhis or Max Everson.

In Jeffersons 3 hardest games this year (EP, Wayzata, and Burnsville) the Gallus line has done nothing except for one assist on one of Jeffersons goals against EP. And there is no way Siiro and Gallus are top 20 seniors.
Siiro is maybe somewhere in the 21-30 range and Gallus in the 31-50 range.
As for the Taft line, they had 2 goals against Holy Angels, Had 2 goals against Wayzata, 3 goals against Burnsville, and 1 against Minnetonka

I was going off of the51's pairing that were up. Either way, Edina's first of Baker and Everson/Van Voorhis is better than Jefferson's second pairing.oneIdmonsta wrote:well then you don't know what your talking about because the pairings are
