Breakout season???? THEY WENT TO STATE LAST YEAR, how much more of a breakout season do you want? They went the year before that also, thata would be the breakout season.

They have a very nice Jr class they will be good next season also.

yes woodbury seems to have figured it out lately. very good team but for some reason, they get overlooked and underrated.

From what I saw of Woodbury against Blake is that the Royals are physical, they keep coming at you and have 4 well balanced lines.

Big guns are Colin Keefe, Max Gaede, Connor Delaney, Walker Hyland, Tony Pittman, Tyler Nowicki, just to name a few. Actually, like I said with the 4 balanced lines, Woodbury has a total team effort as well as a very good head coach in Wes Bolin.

They are a very good team and it will be interesting to see how they play against Edina on tuesday. They are very young so they'll have an great team next year that will compete for the state title. The only real problem I see with this team is they are pretty small. And I would agree that their breakout seasons were last year and the year before.

I can't wait to watch them play Edina Tues night...hopefully will be a good game. I have never been to Braemar Arena!

Anyone notice how David Eddy is doing? Leading his team in points :)

I was at the Hill/Edina game. I was dissapointed in Edina, maybe it was an off night, or maybe they will miss Buddish too much, but they may be overated. Based on what I saw agianst Hill, It would not suprise me to see Woodbury win this one.

Wow, you could always tell he was a tough kid, but I didn't know he had that in him. On top of that, he's leading his team in scoring, that's pretty impressive. Good luck to him at St. Cloud.

Jesus! I continue to doubt him and think that he is not that good but then he always does something to contradict me. I am going to have to become a fan of David. Good luck to him at State. As far as Woodbury goes, my big question is who is there goalie and what is he like. They lost 2 good goalies in the past 2 years and I feel that goaltending might be the one thing that could hold them back.

Wes Bolin could very well be the best coach in the state.

Too bad you can't fight in college hockey, I'd love to see some more of him.

Two junior goalies. Michael Ness and Patrick Moore.

They were both 1-2 in almost every category in the SEC on JV last year with both having save percentages over 93%. Moore did not play any varsity last year and Ness played 1 period. Both have only played 2 1/2 games this year and a scrimmage. Both have save percentages over 90% and GAA under 1.6 Ness had a shutout in a scrimmage against STA. Moore had a game shutout against Blake. Before passing judgement on the goalies, let's give them some time. The biggest challenge will be consistancy game in and game out. As I recall both
Foley and Wigen started out a little slow in their first month of varsity play and had similar stats to these two. Everyone was writing them off the first month and they were a big reason that Woodbury got as far as they did in the state tournaments. So let's check back in January to see how Ness and Moore are doing.

Good call. I thought Moore looked pretty solid against Edina considering he was getting pummeled with shots the entire game. He didn't give up too many rebounds either.

After watching the game last night I would say this team is pretty good. They work hard and use their bodies. They were sloppy at times in their systems as was White Bear but that will come with more practice and game time for the youngsters. Because of the section they are in they have a great shot of going to the tourney along with Cretin.

And much more important than the box score was how sweet it was when Max Gaede shattered the glass with that other kid's body!!

I bet it wouldn't have been so sweet to you if it was Gaede that was hit and shattered the glass.

Bolin/Housley

Post by DPlaya »

I'm a long-time lurker on this board. I have followed Wes Bolin's career move to Minnesota from Wisconsin with interest. When he first moved to Woodbury, there was a poll on this site asking if Housley or Bolin would be the better coach. From memory, Housley won in a landslide. To be fair, not many people had any idea who Bolin even was at that point.

It is very interesting to read this site these days with Bolin being called one of the best coaches in the state in this thread, and people calling for Housley's head in the Stillwater vs. Woodbury thread.
