Congrats to Jake Gardiner of Minnetonka. He was just selected 17th overall by the Anaheim Ducks. First Minnesotan to go.

Good for Jake. I have always thought he was the real deal and in my opinion, was the best player in Minnesota last season. Nothing against Ness, but I think this kid has way more upside. He deserves this honor and best of luck to him. Saw some mock drafts that had him going to the Wild at 24, and some as high as 18. 17 seems about right. Again, congratulations to a good kid and great player.
Character is who you are when no one is watching
Philip McRae to the Blues 33rd overall (played in the OHL, but is from Minneapolis)
Aaron Ness to the Islanders 40th overall
Derek Stepan to the Rangers 51st overall
Danny Kristo to the Habs 56th overall
David Toews to Islanders at 66th overall
Cory Fienhage to the Sabres at 81st overall
Why would the Islanders take someone going to the Gophers?

the minimal contacts I have had with the family in the past has always been positive. Their activities in the community are public knowledge. My opinion was formed and based on those contacts.
I did not infer they were close personal friends as Sid does any chance he gets for anyone he knows.
What nerve did I hit with you rbkhockey?? World is too sensitive and PC when you can't even offer up a compliment to a family. You're reading way too much into things rbkhockey, way too much
Sorry you read that I stated that I'm on their speed dial and they're on mine. Those are pretty broad lines to read between.

very true since "the gophers don't properly develop talent for the nhl"

Was just glancing over the total draft list and its clear that Minnesota has more high school players that were drafted this year that all other states combined I am guessing....I coudl be wrong, but didn't want to sit and count all the different players from different states. At any rate, we should be very proud of Minnesota High School Hockey.

OK, I'm a nerd, so I went thru and pulled out some numbers.HasNoMoves wrote:Was just glancing over the total draft list and its clear that Minnesota has more high school players that were drafted this year that all other states combined I am guessing....I coudl be wrong, but didn't want to sit and count all the different players from different states. First, great job Minnesota...the state had by far the most straight-from-high school players selected in the draft. After you add in the Shattuck players, it's even more impressive(and that's not even counting the kids from the state who play for other teams).
Here's how it shakes out...apologies if I missed any schools.
Minnetonka...1
Edina....2
Roseau...1
Eastview...1
Cloquet...1
Brainerd...1
Shattuck...3
Not Minnesota, but still a fine state...
Wassau, Wisconsin....1
Private Boarding Schools Not Named Shattuck...
Kent School, CT...1
Northwood School, NY...1
Avon Old Farms, CT...1
Choate-Rosemary...1
Thanks for posting this info. I know the Blackhawks picked Gleason. Did someone else from Edina get taken? (I was watching, kept waiting for when Lee or Everson would be taken. But it never happened ... or did it?)Lily Braden wrote:OK, I'm a nerd, so I went thru and pulled out some numbers.HasNoMoves wrote:Was just glancing over the total draft list and its clear that Minnesota has more high school players that were drafted this year that all other states combined I am guessing....I coudl be wrong, but didn't want to sit and count all the different players from different states. So is there someone here who is draft savvy about this kind of thing? Would the fact that Lee and Everson are still in high school be a big reason they were not drafted? Might they be considered in next year's draft? Or does that never happen?
Of the high school players that were taken, are any returning as seniors next year? How rare is it that players get drafted after their junior year of high school?

You are right...I was looking for the kids who came out of MN high schools, but if you go through and look ALL of the players originally from the state, the list gets even longer.Pucknutz69 wrote:You forgot 1

Schroeder is a 90 and will go in next years draft (I believe). Frankly, Schroeder could go early in the first round from what I hear. I think Lee and Everson fall in Schroeder's category. Maybe I am wrong.

sorry to hear
Wow, that is too bad. A lot of athlete's have died and only then the family learns about heart problems. Hopefully he has no trouble finding something else to keep him busy as he heads to college.
Be kind. Rewind.
