Both D11 goalies doing a great job of keeping thier team in the game vs. D8 & D6 that were very one sided.

I saw most of the Saturday games. The most exiciting one was between D11 and D6. The D6 forwards dominated the game, but the goalie from Silver Bay played an outstanding first period (23 minutes worth) and kept D11 in the game. The second and final period slowed down with the two teams playing even with the D11 goalie from Moose Lake playing well.

Down 2-1 near the end of the second period, the D11 coach pulled the goalie, but D11 couldn’t apply pressure until the final 20 seconds when one of the forwards manage to come up with the puck behind the D6 net and catch another D11 forward about two feet in front of the goal who rapped it in for the tying goal.

The four minute overtime period (5 on 5) was uneventful and the game was resolved with a shootout. The Silver Bay goalie was back in the nets for the shootout and he blanked the D6 forwards to give the win to D11.

Of the teams I saw, I liked three lines that D3 had, especially the one that combined #24 from Hopkins and #19 from Armstrong; two other D3 lines were a close match. But it wasn’t a surprise that D10 beat D3 (although I didn’t see the game). The D10 all St. Cloud line (12/14/32) played the best game based on what I saw. With another line centered by #33 from Champlin Park to back them up, D10 had a lot of fire power.

D11 won their first ever Advanced 15 tournament in one of the most unbelievable games I've ever watched!!

1st half- D10 came out blasting and dominated the play. They peppered our Moose Lake goalie for 23 minutes in which he allowed 3 goals but played solid.

2nd half - D11 came out blasting. They dominated play throughout and came back to score 4 unanswered goals to win the championship.

Big props go to the kids of both teams, as they played their hearts out. As a parent and fan, I would like to thank all the kids this weekend in some of the most unbelievable hockey I've ever witnessed. Everyone should be proud! Thank you!!

Any game against a Bill McClellan coached team would be one-sided. When is MN hockey going to tell this guy to hit the road? He has hurt more D8 kids then helped unless you attend a private school. The teams he picks are the reason why this thing is a huge joke, more about picking his buddies kids rather then the kids that deserve to go.

I'm familar with the 93 talent pool in D8 and for the most part, I believe they got it right in the selection process. Sure, there are a couple of kids that made the team this year that are basic very compriable to some kids who did not, but there were no big surprises of a top end 93 from D8 who was left out. Please correct me if you think I'm wrong and please share with everyone what big time player was left off the D8 selection list?

D8 had two very good goalies and several very good forwards. But the district is not very deep with talent at defense.

GBombay29, how do you know so much about this guy from D8? I take it you are not one of his buddies? I think he as been working with the D8 team for quite a few years and also works with the National Camp in July or August. Are you also saying he is partial towards private school players, just curious.

I am very familiar with the D8 kids and I am curious as to who you think wasn't there that should have been? Don't embarrass any kids that made the team by saying they shouldn't have been there, the fact they made the team is not their fault. But who was excluded that you thought should have made it?

I honostly believe that no "superstars" were left off these rosters...If it was a bubble player here or there sure, it would be tough to argue that, I'm sure every district had a kid or two that that probably could have gone either way. Which if that is the case, I also don't believe that those fringe players are not the ones that are going to move on from this level. Of course, everyone who is THERE has the chance, but I hardly think crucifying a person because the occasional diamond in the rough gets left out.

Finally, the bottom line is, it is not the end of the world if you don't make the 15's use it to fuel your game to try and make the 16's.

Come on people.

Wanna - I've heard there was a D6 goalie and a top D3 player that were not in the festival that both dominated at the tryouts (that's the buzz around the rinks anyway). I think overall it was great hockey but maybe some of these coaches have been there a bit too long. Appreciate their commitment but it does become a bit clouded after too many years - and too many buddies. Best to have non-district evaluators and some new blood in coaching, and you'd eliminate even the slightest appearance of favoritism or the reverse (which in my opinion is even worse!). There will always be those who feel some kids got left out though.

Its amazing that everyone complains once the festival is over. Come on and represent the kids that played in a more positive way. I watched almost every game, and every district was well represented. Congrats to the kids that made it, and thank you for the exceptional level of hockey you played!!!

I don't care who you are, no coach can pick a team perfectly. Remember, all Cris Carter could do was catch touchdowns. Buddy Ryan wasn't a big fan of the future Hall of Famer...The fact is, different coaches look for different things and it doesn't matter who is coaching the teams that is always going to be the case. To say the buzz around the rink is this or that really isn't fair. Maybe the kid didn't work hard during all the drills, maybe he didn't follow directions...maybe he showed up late or left early...there are so many factors that "we" don't know about it is not fair for anyone to complain. I'm sure out of the 240 kids playing this weekend there were another 240 kids that were at home and thought they got screwed...or maybe I should say their parents thought they got screwed. In any event, after spending the weekend watching games I think there were plenty of quality kids playing this weekend.
Nonparent, volunteer coaches and people have the balls to complain about it.

I agree with whoever said, drop the crap, and celebrate the kids that made it and the ones that will be moving on. I bet there are probably a few kids that move on at this level, that won't next year and a few that didn't that will.
