USHL Chicago Showcase
Any thoughts? Players who have been? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Just curious because I have a player attending this year. Not many Minnesota kids on the rosters. Lots of different states represented though.

If you only knew the power of the dark side!
Re: USHL Chicago Showcase
Because the Showcase is for high school players. Two different tourneys. One for '92 birth years April 17 - 20, the other for '90/'91 April 24-27.ap4mvp wrote:yeah I got a thought why don't you post this on the junior hockey forumGR3343 wrote:Any thoughts? Waste of Cash
If from Minnesota and want to waste money on tryouts because no confidence in your player go ahead and drive to Chicago. Service(company) that runs tryouts is from Minny and have seen kids over and over again. Do the math money maker.
Save cash and go to Model Camp, Exposure, 16/17 festivals same scouts there and remember if your a player all scouts will be at your HS or Elite I games!

I didn't get the impression it was a tryout camp. Just another source of exposure and maybe a chance to check out the city of Chicago.mnb327 wrote:If from Minnesota and want to waste money on tryouts because no confidence in your player go ahead and drive to Chicago. I'd also be willing to bet that Exposure is at least as expensive, if not more than Showcase.
If you're looking for a new experience with some good competition, I'd say go for it.
Oh, and nice first post.

Last year there were quite a few MN kids that went to this. This year several of the 92's aren't going because they are hoping to advance in the 16's. Would definitely recommend to go if you can.GR3343 wrote:Any thoughts? Players who have been? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Just curious because I have a player attending this year. Stupid me, but this cost money!!! I had a neighbor of mine say that it was in expensive for this! True or not I guess this doesn't matter. The big question is,how does this help the player?mnb327 wrote:If from Minnesota and want to waste money on tryouts because no confidence in your player go ahead and drive to Chicago. Re: Waste of Cash
The cost for this event is small for what you get. 6 games over the course of the time they're in Chicago against supposed top competition from around the US. Also we've been told that the players will be subjected to interviews with coaching staffs as well as physical workouts. Being that the USHL is the premier junior league in the states, it sounded like a good opportunity for someone that was invited. Plus, it seems like another chance to see a place a kid wouldn't normally get to see as well as a chance to meet a ton of kids from around the country. As far as how this helps the player, I can only guess that playing against some top level talent from around the country can only help a player. Gives them a chance to see what's really out there and gauge his strengths/weaknesses. And the added bonus for some of these players is that they'll enhance their profiles with some of the USHL clubs. Looking back at some of the players from Minn. that have participated, you see some high profile names. Some of those players were drafted by USHL teams based on their performance at this tournament. The letters we got regarding this tell us that's why they hold this tournament just before the USHL draft. It seems to be a combine of sorts for future USHL players. Certainly there will be others out there that say it's a waste of time and just a money maker for the league, but there's some of us out here looking at it at face value. There's no guarantees offered or made concerning where a kid ends up, just an opportunity to compete at a higher level for a few days. Opinions are what I asked for and I've gotten a few good or bad. Keep them coming.Indians forever wrote:Stupid me, but this cost money!!! I had a neighbor of mine say that it was in expensive for this! True or not I guess this doesn't matter. Of course you're going to say that, since your kid is going to Chicago.HOFam'r wrote:The rosters for Showcase look much more competitive then rosters for Xposure...Probably a better deal going to Chicago.
Depends on what you're looking for...both Chicago and Xposure offer some nice opportunities for kids.

1.) You have no idea who my kid is
2.) I have no preference between xposure or showcase...just mentioning the rosters looked stronger at showcase.
3.) Don't play with fire scare crow

Hey GR3343, can a guy run a team of Minnesota boys down to this event? I run a group of 93 kids that I would not mind taking down next year when they are eligible. Thanks.

299 kids played some amount of hockey in the USHL this past season. No fewer than 168 have committed to college hockey programs thus far.GR3343 wrote:The cost for this event is small for what you get. 6 games over the course of the time they're in Chicago against supposed top competition from around the US. If a player is unable to get a scholarship offer while still playing in high school, your next best bet is to get on a USHL team. I would imagine this tournament maybe helpful to those players looking to earn a college scholarship offer.

Email Bob Turow, director of USHL Central Scouting. www.ushl.com click on the central scouting link and find his name to contact him. That's the only info I have.northwoods oldtimer wrote:Hey GR3343, can a guy run a team of Minnesota boys down to this event? My mistake - didn't notice HOF's kid's name on the Xposure list (not that I was looking). Didn't mean to get you riled up HOF - and I do know who you are and who your kid is.Can't Never Tried wrote:I doHOFam'r wrote:Couple things:suntzu wrote: Of course you're going to say that, since your kid is going to Chicago.

The Chicago Showcase which Jokinen isn't going to is different from the USHL Chicago Showcase. One is games between State All Star teams and one (USHL Showcase) is between a combination of guys from different states.NHLer wrote:Jokinen will not be going to Chicago being he signed with Mankato he would be enelligible.
Anyways, So what will the team do? Add another player or go with 19 guys?
