District 3 roster looks very talented, was surprised not to see Carlson from Maple Grove/ Osseo on it. Did he tryout? Spring Break?

if you mean that he tried to make the 16 selects even though hes a 93 i dont think this is possible. im pretty sure your only allowed to tryout for your age group and can't bump up a level

I was in the stands watching the district 3 tryouts even though I did not have a player at the Advance 15 level. I wanted to see how the Tryout process worked not having had a player reach this level yet. I also knew some of the players participating in the Tryout.

Regarding the Carlson player. Dan Carlson was at Advance 15 TRYOUTS and was easily one of the TOP 3 players on the ice EACH night of the tryouts. Anyone with any hockey background could clearly see that on the ice. I am baffled by the process - is it a hockey TRYOUT or a popularity contest?

My understanding is that his Bantam coach basically nominated him and then turned around and BLACK-BALLED him through the process. If he didn't want him to make the team, why even nominate the player for the opportunity. Why embarrass a 14-15 year old kid with such a blatant act. If there is any truth to this - he should be embarrassed by his actions.

You can state that the Carlson kid has an ATTITUDE problem - what 15 year kid doesn't. I know the player and have had many interactions with him on and off the ice - he is a good kid and a talented hockey player. Sounds more like his BANTAM coach needs an ATTITUDE adjustment.

When egregious acts like this occur it brings into question the integrity
of the TRYOUT process.

First of all the coaches have plenty of hockey knowledge....Mom and Dad. Secondly your attitude does matter especially at this level; and you are wrong not all players have an attitude problem nice excuse

Thirdly my point about the 16's is the kid must think he is something to make the Section 5 AA team if he cant make the 15's...what a pompous attitude. Was that what you were looking for?? Proof in the pudding.
"I got screwed at the 15's so I will try and make the 16's", "oh I am sorry son you are not old enough"

Maybe you look in the mirror stop blaming your coach..who by the way has forgotten more than you will ever know about the game of hockey, take some responsibility and change. But I would never expect him to do that because you have already made excuses for him.

Typical of this board: Blame the coach if that doesnt work blame the system.

At least he has an out for the remainder of his high school career and probably beyond.

as a coach if you encounter a kid with an attitude you man up ant tell that kid!!!! you sit down and tell him like it is what hes doing wrong ect.. you dont send him to the try outs and than like a 3 year old take him down if he belongs to be their. so thats a mistake on both parties. you want the kid to change his attitude as an adult try setting the example.

How about doing your job as a parent first. Why dont you help change the attitude? The kid knows he has an attitude problem.

Like I said earlier find an excuse to blame everyone else instead of taking responsibility for your actions oh and Mom and Dad included.

This kid does have an attitude problem. You do not have to look any further than his father. His father is in so tight with the high school coach. This means there are other kids that are going to get screwed because this kid will always get the benefit of the doubt. Whether it is on the power play or extra ice time, etc... So that is why he could even get an Advance 16 endorsement. This is the first time his daddys connections haven't paid off. I applaud the Advance 15 Coach He is still picking a TEAM & Carlson is a total distraction to a TEAM!!!!!!

im totally bias to this situation. i dont know any of these people. what i think is if a kid has an attitude problem the coach should address this with the kid. if the kid doesnt comply than you take action. By the way it sounds this is something that has been talked about for some time.

GOEP, You mentioned the relationship between the parent's and the high school coach. IMO it seem's this kid received special priveledges not given to all others who didn't make a team? I'd like to think the process in place works for picking the top players? Don't know much about the kid or family in regards to attitude. I've enjoyed watching him compete against my child in the off-season for BLADES. And he seems to be a great player for that team. Hope everything works out in the wash for the kid, family, coach's and system. Good Luck!![/b]
