As players, you may not "yet" understand the full thoughts and ideas that was said last night, but in time you will. As competitors in an aggressive sport, you may of had some "nice" words to say to your opponent during a game but next year at college, that opponent could be your dorm/house roommate! That bound of hockey turns you two into great friends.
