Because they will never win a championship with him behind the bench.

How do you not win it with that much talent? 10 Elite League players. 6 D1 college players?

It's called goaltending. Cashetta has been overrated for 3 years now while Philippi was incredible. Also, Hill had plenty of talent as well.

What does Giles have to do with HMs goalie playing so well?
Last night was HMs night. Their goalie was awesome. Their penalty kill was awesome. Their goalie was awesome. No HS team in the state would have beat HM last night.

Edina will win a title in the next ten years.

The initial message asked how Edina didn't win with that much talent and I said because Hill. I said their goalie was incredible and the team was great too. Is it that difficult to understand?

Go Curt Giles!!! Keep losing state chamionships with by-far-an-away the most talented team in the state, if not the country. You will make many Minnesotans (including this one) very happy.

i agree with both. hill was a good team with better goaltending and better coaching.giles is an uninvolved, unmotivated, unmotivating and uninspiring.

I saw 2 elite players at state this year. Ness and Philippi. HM wasn't the best team in state. they just got all the bounces.

Once again Congrats to the beautiful Town Of Hill-Murray. And they Op'd UP!

I'm impressed....

If Ness's play at the state was elite, you have very low standards.

Ness on a bad day is better then any skater @ State this year. Just the little things he does on a random shift impressed me. Ness is 1 of a kind.

Ness is outstanding but after watching Gardiner I think Jake is in his league at least as an offensive defenseman.

I agree Gleason should be added to the list of outstanding OFFENSIVE defensemen.

But Ness is head and shoulders above both of them as a DEFENSIVE defenseman. Don't get me wrong, Gardiner and Gleason are both phenomenal hockey players, I just think Ness is better.

Why do you have a problem with giving a great team the respect they deserve? Look at my signature, you will see I'm not a fan of any private schools, but I do respect them if they have earned it. Hill has. They convincingly knocked off the 2 teams that EVERYBODY (including myself) thought were the 2 best teams in the state. Some people thought this Roseau team could make a case for best ever in the state of Minnesota, and many thought this was the best Edina team in the school's history. And Hill beat them a combined 9-2, including a shutout of arguably the most powerful offensive hockey team in not only the state, but the entire country. You don't do that by "getting the bounces."

Can't fault Giles. He can't do anything to prevent the opposing goalie from playing great and keeping the puck out of the net. You just have to tip your hat to a great performance by Phillippi. He played great and was supported well by his teammates.

My original post has nothing to do with Hill or their goalie.

The point I am trying to make is that with all of the talent coming through the youth programs of Edina, they should have more state tournament appearances than they have had under his watch. What do they have three tourney appearances under him?

No question Phillipi played like an NHL'er. Where you can question Giles is in motivating his players and his ice time decisions from sections through the tourney. To me, he overplayed and went to the Buddish/Everson line way to much and by playing only two lines left his studs with no gas in the tank when they needed it. I have to agree that they may never win a title with Giles on the bench. Only a matter of time before they make a coaching change. If it's not this year, it will be next for sure if they don't win it.

A team loses a hard fought game and here we go yet again with more "off with his head" stuff. Guess some in here didn't pay attention to the second period of the 'ship game where the Edina boys played some phenominal hockey only to be stoned by Flip. I don't have the scorebook in front of me but the shots wern't even close. Edina found ways to break the zone and pour shots on the Hill netminder. But when a goalie is white hott, there's not much more you can do.

You don't notch the regular season Edina had, come out a winner in a tough section final, & then fend off a pesky BSM team in the semi's unless you did something right along the way.

The stars aligned for Philipi and he played 2 tremendous games back to back to carry his squad. From my vantage point, I don't care who was on the ice nor who was leading from the bench. Hill was unstoppable at the X. Can't blame that on the Edina coach.
