Only 93 hours, 24 minutes to the revival of HS hockey's greatest rivalry!

Cloquet has been a bit of a mystery to me lately. They haven't been playing well at all, though they finally scraped out a win against Denfeld today. The same Denfeld team that East outshot 44-19. Just about every other common opponent and other method we have of ranking these teams says East will win, and probably by a decent margin.

But...this is a rivalry, and crazy things can happen. Getting outplayed didn't stop Cloquet from winning the first meeting. The Lumberjacks may be limping in, but they're still extremely dangerous, and a sweep of East makes their season and instantly restores their credibility in the hunt for the 7AA title.

Should be another thriller...I can't wait.

After last nights Anoka loss to Blaine, I would think East can lock up the number 1 seed with a victory against the Jacks. East beat Blaine last Friday in a very good high school game and beat Anoka earlier. East better show up with their A effort though otherwise they will come out on the short end for sure. I dont think they looked sharp Saturday against AV but they have had the flu bug run through the team and missed 3 days of skating last week due to cancellations and school called off. Lets go Hounds.

I agree, East looked flat yesterday. I would guess they were looking past Apple Valley a little bit, but thats only a guess. This should be a good game. East has the better team, but how many times since this rivalry began has that been said and a 1 goal game was played. Cloquet and East hate each other, the DECC will be packed, and it will be a great game.

If Duluth East defeats Cloquet on Wednesday...they will have the #1 seed locked up...but if Cloquet wins and Anoka wins they're last 4 games to finish 20-5 overall and 5-1 in Section 7AA games (with DE being 16-8-1 overall and 3-3 in Section 7AA games) then DE's loss to ER...could cost DE the #1 seed to Anoka.

Playing against their rivals with possibly the #1 seed on the line, East will not come out as flat as they did against Apple Valley. I expect East to take care of business in this one.

I was sitting close enough to the bench yesterday to hear this from Randolph in the 2nd period:

"The passing is brutal right now, and that's a concentration issue."

So he probably felt they were looking past AV a bit. We should see a much better East team Wednesday night. The key to this game for East will be keeping Jokinen in check. They didn't do that in the 1st meeting, despite generally controlling the flow of play. If they take away Jokinen, Cloquet isn't left with very much.

If East wins this game the top 4 should be:

1. East
2. Anoka
3. Grand Rapids
4. Cloquet

Should Cloquet win...
1. Anoka
2. Cloquet
3. East
4. Rapids

Barring any quarterfinal upsets, the semifinal matchups are the same no matter what happens in this game.

Which is fine with me. I'd just rather have the East/CEC game as the early game, and GR/Anoka at 2:30. If the seeds work out for that I'll be very happy. Also, I'd like to see Elk River get 7 so they can play Anoka in the quarters.

Can someone post the link for the Duluth News Tribune webcast? Also, does anyone know if their video streaming has a "full screen" option?

I don't know the link address off the top of my head, but it will be on the front page at prephockeynorth.com starting at midnight tonight in the What's On section. They do not offer full screen video.
