You're fantasy State Tournament

Post by espnmobile8 »

I know, it is kind of goofy. But, if you could have a fantasy tournament with 8 teams from the past and/or present of Minnesota High School Hockey history who would it be (As in, the 2007-08 Rams VS the 1992-93 Jaguars...By the way I'm not comparing the two I just threw them out there)? Or, maybe the 8 teams you would like to see this year, regardless of their Sections?

Im not posting this to praise Hill or anything but it would be a good match up to see one of the 70's Grand Rapids teams v.s. the present Hill Murray, just to see how much times have really changed. That would be really cool to see players like Bill Baker go up against Furne or Zepeda.

Also the Edina Hornets of the 70's v.s. present time Hornets

One team I would want to see in it would be the 95-96 Duluth East team.

Dave Spehar was a great HS player and very fun to watch.

Heck, let’s go ahead and bracket the 95-96 Apple Valley squad in there. I’m up for another 5 OT thriller!

Ahhh great memories.

Mi'ne:

Warroad with Henry Boucha
Greenway of Coleraine with Mike Antonovich
Eveleth with John Mayasich
Roseau with Broten, Broten, and Erickson
Edina 1982 - 1st year after the merger
Burnsville 1985
The undefeated Jefferson teams in the 1990s
The undefeated Hill-Murray team (1983?)

Four north, three Southwest suburbs, and the Catholic power from St. Paul.

I dont think Spehar would make as big of an impact now a days. I think teams would be smart enough to tee off on him as most college teams did when he got to the gophs... He wouldnt be able to stand at the red line and wait for a pass either which would hurt...

I would love to watch the early to mid 90's Jefferson team(s) against the 07-08 Edina team as well as against the early 2000(s) AHA teams... That would be fun to watch. Barribal and company up against he powerhouse Jefferson teams would be a blast!

Neut, you'd really like to see that Roseau team versus the one about a decade earlier with the Broten brothers and Bryan Erickson?

A nice list, but no love for Hill-Murray. I think every great tournament has a villain.

Throw in the 82-83 Pioneers, which had a perfect season.

Outside of Hill, no mention of any other Private School. What is all the whining about then???

BTW, Zamman, that was fantastic - NO Amen's in the Public Schools!!

1975-1980 were the glory years for me.

I'd like a time machine to see Broten et al again,

plus every Grand Rapids versus Hill-Murray game

with a slightly different outcome.

Does anyone have those games archived?

I was lucky enough to attend with my 9 yr old son at the time. It was so awesome!
Do I have to shadow Pavelich again coach?
