Why is it that arenas are playing very bad, very loud "music" during warm-ups and between periods?
Let's take the Brainerd vs GR game last night. The music was horrid at best and very annoying to people of all ages that were sitting nearby.
Even the high school kids nearby thought it was irritating.
The bad music is not only in Brainerd. It seems to be almost everywhere.
If your the music man at your arena, please think about bringing the volume down, playing better "hockey" music, or playing no music at all.
Loud, annoying music keeps people away from the arena.

Its adults playing what they think kids like...
We had our kids (varsity kids) put a cd together to play during warm ups and when they come out onto the ice. It had to be approved by the coach, that way they get what they want and the coach can monitor it. Suprised that teams havent thought of that...
Johnson is far and away the loudest rink I've been to over the last couple of years, but most of the time, I like the music. Usually lots of AC/DC, Metallica, etc. They hit the ice to "Crazy Train" by Ozzy... last year it was "Bombshell" by Powerman 5000.
Of course as I'm writing this, they're blaring that damn song they play after soccer goals. Hate it.

There is no good new music.
The older I get, the more I realize the truth in that statement. Well...maybe I'm just getting older. I remember how I couldn't stand the "crap" my elders used to play 30+years ago. And now.......

Why do they have to play music period? I'm a headbanger from way back but when I'm watching hockey I like to chat and watch hockey. When I WANT to listen to Angus & Bon loudly...I listen to Angus & Bon very loud (on a better sound system too), I don't watch hockey when I'm doing it...(there was a Hockey Night in Canada joke I had inserted in here but the "boreds" G-Rated now). Pretty simple cut the tunes, if you need the tunes to get pumped up out on the ice your a little late.

Undercover Guy- You are right on target!! Cut the music altogether and play hockey. It's not the junior prom here!!!
sounds like it's mostly parents complaining about the music issue, i'm under the impression that the kids like it, and so do the fans. parents, let the kids listen to whatever music they like, and don't complain if its not from the 70s. If the kids like, stop complaining, after all it is HIGH SCHOOL hockey.

That's all well and good, but more often than not, I'm that creepy guy you see at the arena sitting way up in the corner of the bleachers or on the glass by himself, and between periods I need entertainment!
It's either arena music or sitting here catching up with what I've missed on the bored. Pick your poison!
I think that bands at the game are great. If you get a good one that has a good up beat tune, it gets the students involved and makes a great atmosphere.
Century has the best band ever. I was digging the Ska that they were playing at State last year. I wish more bands would follow and play interesting songs.
It would be good if nobody anywhere ever played noted weirdo Gary Glitter again. Also, if you've got a crap sound system leave the volume down!! Nothing worse than loud, tinny hair metal!! Plus, live bands rule!!!!!!!!!!
Apple Valley arena that both AV and Eastview play has to have the most annoying music ever. Nothing wrong with most of the songs if u hear them once or twice, but They play the same song for certain situations (player entrance at the start of a period is TI- bring em out, away team penalty is Hit the road jack, etc.) EVERY TIME. Note they do this for both EV and AV, I just hope they dont do it for the girls too.

Do you bring your laptop to the game, or do you have a Blackberry or something? How can you be at the rink and be on Minnhock?

I have a Blackberry or something. Unless Lee puts me on the payroll, bringing the laptop to games would be going a little overboard in my eyes.
LOL!! I was at a Cretin game last week and the warm up music brought me right back to high school. G&R, Metallica, Motley Crew. They played the full version of Same 'ol situation; it was jammin (yes, I am old).
I enjoy the classic 70's music they play and I am grateful that they are sticking to that era and not the current stuff. I think the problem is the poor quality of most arena sound systems.
Hill-Murray has a tradition of playing Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline". Does anyone know how that got started?

It was horrid and a few times the system went faulty and it would take them a fair amount of time to correct the problem. Also, a bit of advice to the Brainerd faithful. Have your announcer get the correct pronunciations of the opposing players names before the game.
