MLB Playoffs

Post by boblee »

Who are the favorites? I will start with my first round picks in the AL...

I like the Yankees over the Indians in 4

I like the Angels over the Red Sox in 5

In the National league...

I like the Rockies to win the 1 game playoff.

You forgot that the 4th week of the season. Thanks for chiming in.

Unfortunately, I think we're destined for a Red Sox/Yankees ALCS. In fact, I think the Sox will sweep the Angels to get there - the Angels lack of power will bite them in the rear end. I'd take the Yanks in sweep also, but since they've already gone 6-0 against the Tribe, I think 9 in a row is not very realistic, so I'll give them 1 game anyway.

I think you have to take the Rocks in the play-in - I don't know how you pick against a team that's gone 13-1 when it counts the most. They will be a real problem if they play against the Phils... although I'd really like to see how far Ryan Howard can hit one in the thin air.

I'll also take the Diamondbacks over the Cubs in a good series - I'll say 6 games.

Since the Yanks aren't playing the Angels, I like their chances all the way through. They got spanked by Boston early in the year, but handled them well the second half and like mentioned above, the Indians will probably take one, but that's it. Especially if that offense stays on a role and Petite and Wang can take the game late enough to get the ball to Chamberlain and Rivera.

I wish the game hadn't ended on a blown call. Barrett did a helluva job to block the plate. Either way, an MVP & ROY award was won in this game and a Cy Young award was lost.

If the Cubs make it against the Yankees or Red Sox it will be a truly National series, and will bump football off the front sports pages for a week. Arizona, Colorado, and LA don't perk my interest much, but the rest do.

Former Twins in the Playoffs

Lohse (PHI)
Romero (PHI)
Hawkins (COL)
Redman (COL)
Cirillo (AZ)
Ojeda (AZ)
Jones (CHI)
Blake (CLE)
Gomez (CLE)
Rivas (CLE)
Mientkiewicz (NY)
Kielty (BOS)
Ortiz (BOS)

Some pretty important pieces to that '02 Twins ALCS team are still around in other places.

As you would expect, they dont miss any of the pitchers. I dont know if any of them would make the team. JC probably.

But Ortiz and Blake would sure fill a couple of gapping holes wouldn't they.

TBS have concieved my dream broadcast team, Ted Robinson on the play by play with Steve Stone analyzing and predicting the future. Should be a good series with their comments.

You have to like playoff baseball. Cameras show the D-Back dugout in the top of the 1st and everybody is up on the rail, even the big boys get excited about the playoffs.

From an offensive perspective, the Cubs and Twins have a lot of similarities.
