I actually caught most of this on ESPN the Coon Rapids team ended up pounding South Dakota 17-8 it was actually real close until the 5th inning.
Gotta be happy for them youngsters.....Doing MN proud!!
Quite a difference in size of some of these kids, and I was impressed with how aware they all play the game, such as backing up throws and catching steals and such...
Good luck! Nice to see a MN team win

Aftermath
The aftermath for these young boys if they can do the inevitable will be long felt. I am from Toms River New Jersey...the Toms River Little League sent 3 teams to the LLWS finals in 5 years during the 90's. The team that won it all was so community wide felt. The kids took the field at a Yankees game a week later, did the whole talkshow in New York circuit.
Rosie freaking Odonnel gave a LARGE contribution as did many state organizations to the Little League. When I was 12 we had an averaged sized baseball complex with 2 major league fields, 2 smaller fields for the U12's and 2 for the tee ballers...after the town won the world series they built an indoor facility with field, pitching lanes, batting cages on site, they bought the land accross the street and added 6 more fields...baseball exploded...10 years later, baseball remains a HUGE sport in the area. Making that all star team in that town is like making Varsity in Minnesota High School hockey..there's 150 kids every year for 13 spots.
Crazy..but the community benefited from contributions and the long term effects are still being felt from the complex that ended up there. It's like comparing the super rinks to south st paul..no offense.

In 2006, Bemidji was one strike from going to the Cal Ripken World Series for 12 & under from the Midwest Plains Regional. Lost to Missouri.
Cal Ripken is the younger division of Babe Ruth baseball. Very comparable to rules and number as Little League in Minnesota. Maybe 80 - 85% in numbers nationally and about 60 - 65 % of numbers internationally. Of course, not as much television coverage or name recognition.
And the Bemidji head coach/manager for the last 12 years is a well known poster on this board. And that was his second time losing in the final game of regionals.

They got hammered on Saturday 6-0, but then won with a walk-off homer yesterday, and eliminated Maryland (which I was thrilled to see... that pitcher for Maryland looked like a real snot and seemed to really enjoy running his mouth at C.R. after his fluke catch/double play).quickgym guy wrote:I was camping over the weekend... anyone know how the team did?
They have one more game in pool play tomorrow, and they'll need to win to advance.

Sweet Revenge
Govs it did look like the Maryland kid was talking some stuff after the DP. Totally uncalled for. Nice win by the Coon Rapids kids and good luck the rest of the way.
