I wonder if a guy who has a career record of 82-35 and two Cy Young awards will be able to outdual a Kameron Loe. I'm sure the Twin's bats will find a way to make it an epic battle.

Twins need a win to hang around that .500 vicinity.

Not even close. When the going gets tough, Shanty will start his rally thread and everything will be fine.

Agree. Its too early to say its going t be a long season.

IS knows this and will not start a silver bullet thread until absolutely necessary which will be at least another week or so.

You got that right PB, the only white flag I'm waving is my infield single hankie.

TR knows this too and he'll signal in the Calvary when the time is right.

So Perkins and Reyes are both hurt, with Perkins probably going on the DL for a little bit. I think someone already suggested it in another thread, but it seems like a good time to bring up one of the young guns to work out of the pen for a bit.

It's too early to wave the white flag but Ryan needs to do some tweaking to get the engine going again, the team is really sputtering right now. Mauer's return will help, but they need to overcome their infatuation with Punto at third and Ford in left and pick up a bat.

In regards to packerboy's campaign to resign Hunter, Charley Walter suggests in his column today that Hunter will be too expensive for the Twins to pick up next year:
Despite being off to the best start of his eight-year major league career, it remains doubtful that the Twins can re-sign Torii Hunter, who can become a free agent after the season. The reason is that Hunter, who is on his way to his second all-star appearance, will be unaffordable.

At his present pace, Hunter, 31, who is being paid $12 million this season, can expect guaranteed offers in the $75 million range over five years, or $60 million for four years. The Twins, who will try to extend Johan Santana's contract, can't justify both.

By the way, by losing Hunter via free agency, the Twins could expect compensation similar to that received by the Texas Rangers when they lost Carlos Lee to the Houston Astros after last season. The Rangers received the Astros' first-round draft pick (No. 17 overall) as well as a supplemental pick (No. 35 overall).
$15 million a year? Is he worth that much?

Going on a run like last year is a lot to ask, but they are now in a position where they have to. Throw strikes, play some D, and for cryin out loud HIT THE BOOOFIN BALL!

Inning Loelites

3rd: Cirillo leaves two aboard (Twins 0x1 with RISP)

Note to Twins hitters: layoff anything down in the zone, it will be a ball after it moves. Until you have two strikes, sit on the fastball and be a spectator for everything else.

Bottom of the 6th

Great drop by Cuddyer in foul territory to save a run.
