St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota-Duluth

Post by Zamboni Guy »

This weekend (March 9-11) the second seeded St. Cloud State University Huskies will play host to the ninth seeded University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs. The Huskies are 20-7-7 Overall and 14-7-7 in the WCHA while the Bulldogs are 12-19-5 Overall and 8-16-4 in the WCHA. St. Cloud State swept the season series this regular season by winning 2 games at the DECC and 2 games in the National Hockey Center by scores of 4-0, 4-2, 5-0, and 6-5 respectively. The winner of this best of three series will advance to the 2007 Red Baron Final Five March 15-17 at the Xcel Energy Center. Any thoughts or predictions on this WCHA first round match-up?

Jan Brady State University is going to be too much for the University of Minnesota Twin Ports. I'll take a Huskie sweep, better line depth and much better goaltending.

The Bulldogs have been playing much better as of late. I think they have a shot at making it interesting. As much as I would like to see them move on, I think the Huskies will take it in 3 games.

I think that if Josh Johnson continues his hot play for the last few weekends the Dogs might be able to pull this one out. JBSU is probably more than a little confident, since they've had UMD's number for years...but maybe UMD is due and will play their hearts out knowing that this weekend could be it. I'm going to go with...

University of Minnesota-Duluth in three over St. Cloud Community College.

Wow, surprising result, especially considering SCSU's recent dominance over UMD. The Dogs one win away from a 2nd consecutive upset trip to the Final 5.
