That is just you, you won't see a system moving to the west any time soon. They will ,however, rotate counter-clockwise as was previously stated.

The snow has really picked up here in Duluth during the past hour and a half and the winds are pretty fierce; gusts over 50 at Canal Park. This must be the "second wave" the NWS was talking about last night.

Duluth schools have already been called off for tomorrow and I'm going to assume the colleges will also be off. They said they're looking at opening the Miller Hill Mall at noon but I bet they won't.

Guess I'll be at home another day. Which brings me to a new issue; will the UMD-Bucky game happen tomorrow night?

omg!!! wow... Thats all i can say , had to stop plowing , couldnt see a thing.. The bridge is a death wish if trying to cross , and will be shut down at 5 pm til tomorrow ( both of them, black ice, ZERO i mean ZERO visibility the white out completely blocks all sight , i could not even see my plow, Actually I couldnt see anything past the windshield, Terrible, snow is starting to come now and winds are up to 58 mph, with gusts of near 90 MPH at the lift bridge at times... Im 27 but this is way WAY worse than the mega storm other than the actual amount of snow, I can tell you how many BAD accidents I almost and did see,

There are already over 200 accidents in the area and ppl were not even off work yet... I love messing around in the snow n plowing but its POINTLESS to go anywhere ... Fun to look at from inside tho

Bridges closed? Looks like my brother got home from work in time then; he left at 3:00.

It was pretty windy during the megastorm but nothing like this. I took a couple of pics earlier during the lull between snow blasts and am going to head back out after dinner to take a couple more. If they come out, I'll post them on minnhock.com/duluth.htm later tonight.

The teams can get there; whether the ability of anyone to actually attend the game matters or not isn't yet known. There was some speculation on another Message Board of moving the series from Friday-Saturday to Saturday-Sunday.

Meanwhile, city plows have been pulled from Duluth streets as of 6 p.m. and won't be sent back out until at least 3 a.m. If you get stuck, authorities say, you're on your own. Wind gusts continue to top 50 mph, especially near the harbor. I haven't ventured outside since just after 5:00 to snap some pictures and I'm getting restless here!

I gotta say, i'm feeling pretty thankful for the Blizzocalyps 07. If it wasn't for the storm pushing the games back i wouldn't have been able to attend the 8A game, but now, thanks to the Blizzicane i can make it...as long as my car can make it.

Not much to do here in Duluth but clean up. Managed to get out today and walked the several blocks to my office building. We were supposed to be open today but most of the individual offices were locked up. Fell into conversation with a coworker from a different office and she was royally ticked off; enough so that she ended up calling WDIO-TV!

So, Renee Passalt (sp?) and her camera dude were at the building within an hour and doing the interview. I declined being on camera, stating "fear of retribution". Yep, I'm media-shy.

Will be fun to see the interview on the news tonight, unless they have enough footage of kids sliding at Chester Bowl.

One of the local tv stations here in the Cities sent one of their reporter boobs up to Canal Park to let us know how bad it was in Duluth.

Needless to say, it was snowing quite a bit, so it was just a white screen (you couldn't see him) and all you could hear was him yelling his report and the wind howling through the mic. "IT'S PRETTY WINDY UP HERE, DI!!! LOTS OF SNOW!!!"

Sure. The County decided to keep their offices open. Meantime, the Duluth Police Dept and State Patrol were advising no travel by anyone. Non-essential personnel (which included us) were told we were to work if we could, or use vacation time, personal leave or comp time.

Her angst came from being told the building was open, but her office was locked. She had no problem with being there and working (other than the risk involved in getting there), but to show up and not be able to get to her desk?

Also, the County created the impression amongst the taxpaying public and their clients that this was a normal workday. The County Board made itself look "good", like "Wow, what guys! They're still open!" It was anything but normal. Thing is, if the County declared the building closed, it'd be a paid day off for their non-essential employees.

Now, let's say that the individual offices were actually unlocked (a couple were but there were no clients to serve so at least one closed up while I was still there); the people who are served by County Employees are, in some cases, not your normal folk. Lots of dysfunctiontality. Lots of people with CD and MH issues. People who, needless to say, you wouldn't want to be alone with unattended. But that's exactly what could have happened. There was a pretty significant safety issue at play in this case. I sure wouldn't want to be the only person in an office if an unmedicated individual came in looking for his money or EBT card and I had to tell him it wasn't available today. But the County, as usual, was more interested in Public Perception than the safety of their employees. How else could it be?

If I was her employer and saw her on the news just sitting there, I probably wouldn't pay her for it. In her case, she rode into work with her boyfriend, who was required to be there by the business he worked for. She went there under the impression that, since the building was open according to the County Administration, the building would be open. Well, it was open, but the offices weren't. She could have left and walked home (10+miles) or she could have waited for her bf to finish the work he had to be at his job for.

Believe me, had she known that the building wasn't really open, she wouldn't have wasted her time waiting for somebody to come and open the office, which never happened, by the way.

Her employer has no choice but to pay her for the time she spent in the building. She made a good-faith effort to be there, and upon getting there, found out her effort was wasted. This was no fault of hers. They don't like it? Fine. Next time they can try having an actual plan to cover these circumstances. Honesty would be a good start. Not trying to just look good in the public's eye would be a good start. What they did was bogus.

btw, WDIO was very easy on the County. Some of the stuff which was covered in the interview was left out, stuff which would've made the County look pretty bad, such as the part about the woman who walked nearly a mile through the storm only to find out that the office she needed to get to wasn't open.
