Richfield has the best shot. If anyone does, they will. However, Richfield lost 0-3 at home when they played St Thomas first time this season. Guggenberger could definitely help keep St Thomas to fewer goals (1 or 2), but without the firepower to score on St Thomas, they won't do it.

No it cut off alot of options i also put St. Paul Academy, but that doesnt matter i doubt they would have gotten any votes anyways. I think someone will beat them, they are pretty cocky, they won last year, and every time they play a conference team they get closer to losing it. It will be interesting.

Scout: I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm curious how you would justify seeding Richfield ahead of Red Wing. Just looking at mutual opponents:southernmnscout wrote:I think the top 7 seeds will be:

Richfield lost to Shakopee; Red Wing beat Shakopee on Shakopee's ice
Richfield lost 11-1 to Lourdes; Red Wing tied Lourdes 3-3
Richfield lost at Tartan, then beat Tartan 3-2 at home; Red Wing shut out Tartan 5-0 at Tartan
Richfield got shut out 3-0 by St. Thomas on Richfield's ice; Red Wing lost 2-1 on St. Thomas' ice
They both beat Simley, Northfield and South St. Paul; Red Wing has wins over Blake and John Marshall. Against the "big guns" in their conferences, Richfield lost to Hill-Murray 11-2, while Red Wing lost "only" 5-1 to Holy Angels.
The PS2 has Richfield 15 spots lower than Red Wing, and the only thing I can see in Richfield's favor is a split with Mahtomedi, while Red Wing lost to Mahtomedi. Again, I'm not saying it couldn't work out that way, but I'm wondering what in all of this makes you think Richfield would be seeded higher.

I was mostly going by the way Richfield has been playing lately. With the addition on Goofy Guggs as boblee calls him they are playing well.goalieguy1 wrote:Scout: I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm curious how you would justify seeding Richfield ahead of Red Wing. Keep in mind that they seed before the last game of the season, so depending on when Richfield and Mahtomedi play it might not matter for seeding. but i dont know when they play anybody know. I know the SSP Richfield game wont count for seeding.

Not to totally talk about the other thread I started in here, but would you say if Richfield wins out or just loses to Hill they are qualified for the #2 spot?
Personally, I'd say yes. The reason I wouldn't move them to #1 is that they didn't score against St Thomas at home. Having a new goalie doesn't create more scoring for you, it just makes less for the other team; so the game may be closer, but if Richfield doesn't have the firepower to score, having a better goalie won't help that.
Anyone know what Guggs is doing next year?

3A Section Semi Final Games
So the semi final games could be
Richfield (4) vs STA (1)
Red Wing (3) vs Lourdes (2)
Games are played at Inver Grove Hts.
These will be close games; anyone care to predict an outcome?

How could you give them the #2 seed when Lourdes beat them 11-1????HShockeywatcher wrote:Not to totally talk about the other thread I started in here, but would you say if Richfield wins out or just loses to Hill they are qualified for the #2 spot?

First of all, the seeding takes place before the season is over - I think most sections have their meetings scheduled Feb. 10, 11 or 12 - so there's no way of knowing if Richfield can "win out" before seedings are decided.HShockeywatcher wrote:Not to totally talk about the other thread I started in here, but would you say if Richfield wins out or just loses to Hill they are qualified for the #2 spot?

Second, it would be virtually unprecedented for Richfield to be seeded ahead of Lourdes. Lourdes will have a better record than Richfield, and they beat Richfield head-to-head BY 10 GOALS! What possible justification could there be for seeding a team ahead of you when you beat them by 10 goals? And it wasn't a first-week-of-the-season defeat, it was on December 29. As mentioned earlier, it's pretty hard to build a case for Richfield being even the #3 seed. I think it's impossible to argue that they could be a #2.

Goalieguy, read my other thread about the beginning vs end of season. If the voting was at the end of the season I'd say Richfield could be #2. As for your questioning what possible justification for putting them ahead of a team that beat them by ten goals it would be the addition of a better goalie, he is in fact the guy who would've probably stopped those goals. They got beat by both Tartan and Mahtomedi then turned around and beat them. Who's to say Lourdes won't be different too?
I'd love to see Richfield and St Thomas in the final.

I think offside is right on the money. RW and Lourdes are a very close vote, although I give the edge to Lourdes. Lourdes will have a better record, but with a softer schedule, but they have a win over Breck, compared to a 5-0 RW loss to Breck. Both beat Blake, both beat Northfield, both beat Simley, both beat Prior Lake...I think Lourdes gets a slight edge based on the Breck win, but maybe the coaches will put greater weight on Red Wing's schedule. (Holy Angels twice, Hermantown, Breck, Blake, Lourdes, Mahtomedi, St. Thomas....how many Class A schools play a tougher schedule than that?....and they're going to finish somewhere around 16-8-1 or 15-9-1).Offside wrote:As of right now, RW is the number 2 or 3 seed as they tied Lourdes and lost to STA only 2-1 and Lourdes lost to STA 5-1. It really doesn't matter who is 2 or 3, what really matter is who is 1 and 4. Lourdes and Red Wing have the 2 and 3 pretty much locked up.
HS - You don't discount an entire season of work because of one guy. Jacques Plante isn't going to make the difference in an 11-1 game. Is there a "quality win" on Richfield's schedule besides Mahtomedi?
Can you imagine being in a seeding meeting and saying to a coach, "Yes, you have a better record than us, and yes, you beat us 11-1, but I think we should be seeded ahead of you because we have a different goalie now." You'd be laughed out of the room, and deservedly so.
Like I said, it doesn't matter who is 2 or 3 because those seeds will be Lourdes and Red Wing. STA is 1. More than likely Richfield is 4. Can Richfield upset STA on nuetral ice? with Guggs in the net? I think it'll be very close. The question will be, "can Richfield put a couple in on Crandall?" cuz STA won't score more than three on Guggs.
