if you bring your news papers and holler seive when your team scores, what is the AD GOING TO DO, GIVE ALL THE STUDENTS THAT HOLLER OR HAVE NEWSPAPERS, DETENTION, I think there would be a few upset parents. swearing or other derogetory remarks show no class, so don't do that, but bring your papers. GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS IN THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL TOURNEY IN THE LAND!!!

There is no way this is permanent and even if he wanted it to be he would have to show up at every hornets game from now on and he would have to sit in the student section. However, many of the students did get pretty mad. haha someone threw a hot dog wrapper or something and hit him at the end and he had no idea who it was, you might think that's mean but i find it hilareous he shouldn't be associated with stuff that is out of school, even if it is high school athletics. it wasn't even played at edina.
C'mon... You guys are from Edina, for crying out loud.. Surprised you guys even know what a hot dog is!!! You sure it wasn't cake?

It blows my mind how dumb that was to say... He's your AD buddy thats his job to go to those games! I'm no fan of athletic directors and ours doesn't let us do anything. The student section made a giant flag with an the logo on it which is just for our team no disrespect to anyone and it has been taken from us along with numerous other chants, signs, etc. Next thing you know they're gonna be forcing kids to sit at games because and no body is going to be at games anymore because of these ridiculous rules the AD's and the MSHSL are enforcing. There's a difference between disrespect and competitive nature of the game with chants

Its becoming a joke. Its getting to a point where students cant even have a little fun at a game. Come on thats how rivals get going. I think its a Joke what they are doing. Let the Kids be Kids. I have been on both ends of the chants Its part of the game. As long as they keep it clean It dont bother me one bit.

greyhoundsnation27 wrote:I never liked the "sieve" chant. Not because it's unspotsmanlike, but for 2 reasons.

#1. It takes away from your accomplishment. Can you only score on a bad goalie? Would a good goalie have saved that shot? When I scored (which wasn't all that often), I liked to think it was something that I did rather than what the goalie did.

#2. Sometimes a team (team a) will totally dominate another team (team b), but the score will be tied late in the game. When Team A scores to take the lead, the crowd will start chanting "sieve" when the only reason Team B is in the game is because of the goalie. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I don't know, maybe I'm totally overthinking this, but those are my thoughts.
It all comes down to class. Anything to make Edina appear like they have any is probably a good thing for the school.

I can't comment on the game, but I do agree the "sieve chant" is way overused and in many cases doesn't make sense, but banning it is silly, considering it is not even close to the worst of what is said at games.

Agreed. When I was in high school, they called our flag a "possible weapon."

So that's why the chants at gopher games are so pathetic...

"yeah how about we do the 'lets the puck go by' chant at the beginning of the second even though we're down 4-0" alabama-huntsville's student section is probably better than the U's nowadays.
Yes you go to his school, you show up to his event and you follow his rules. And of course he is going to prevent chanting if you have nothing but bad things to say. Chanting bad things does create a hostile environment. Your ignorance to these things is troubling.
you're inability to see just how harmless that chant is is troubling

i never said i condoned throwing the thing at the ad i said it was funny, there is a difference and the fact that none of you understand that is very disturbing. If I laugh at a family guy joke that might have some sexist remarks does that automatically mean that I am a sexist? no

If its a flag with your school, that says nothing disrespectful towards your school or the school your team is playing who cares? When Int'l Falls plays in Canada, The American Flag is PRIDE.

Any goalie affected by the sieve chant, left hockey long before he got to high school.
And we can't read the paper while you're team is being introduced either.I am waiting for our AD to require students wear equal colors for both schools competing, and requiring one cheer for the opposing team for each cheer they do for the home team.
I also want the: "we got the spirit yes we do we got the spirit- how bout you" chant banned- implys that the other school has no spirit, which I think is disrespectful:)
Seriously- I'm all for cleaning up stuff thats really in-appropriate, but its gotten a bit silly.
Its called home-ice advantage for a reason.

The reading the paper bit is about as funny as it gets... It never gets old, like the newspaper itself...
I am proud of the White Bear Lake student section for loading up with the newspapers tonight!!! It was awesome... I hope someone was able to get a picture of it.

Unfortunately, that was the ONLY thing to get excited about tonight!!

spudie??? I am a WBL parent...... it sure made me feel better that the kids even knew what a newspaper was, or that they might even know how to read!!!

In all seriousness, it was the fact that they took the initiative to even try ANYTHING after all signs were banned and the ability to be a traditional student section has been censored so much.

And yes, the chants after a bad call are also warranted... and we don't have the best access to eel pouts.....

In hibbing they punish the person who started the chant and they pick a few random people who where chanting and punish them also.
