GR vs Jefferson 1-5-08

I decided to make the drive to BIG, and it was a great game. The score should have been 4-2, it was really goofy. GR hit 2 pipes (one of which I am pretty sure clipped a bit of net) and the only goal for Grand Rapids was accidentally poke in by Jefferson's Tommy Odonnell.

Jefferson scored twice on the powerplay, and Odonell beat the defense to score in the third.

Also something I had never seen before. I was behind GR's net, and a Jefferson player ripped a knuckler and it went through the back of the net! The Jefferson side went wild because it a obviously a goal. The Refs talked to Jefferson's coach and inspected the net for holes. I could see the hole, but the Refs were unable to identify it. so no goal for Jefferson there.

Both teams played great but Jefferson was deffinetely the better team last night.

Rapids actually hit three posts by the end of the second period and the so-called shot through the net could not have counted because there was a delayed penalty call coming on Jefferson when the player shot the puck. Also, you have to admit the refs missed a couple of obvious checking from behind penalties on Jefferson. Regardless, it was a very good hockey game.

I talked to a guy that was there, he said the shot went just wide, it was a rocket, not a knuckler, and the goalies knob hit the net inside same time as the puck went by trying to get a blocker on it. Sounds like a delayed penalty was called anyway. He said the ref,s were very one sided in this one at momentum changing times, hard to believe! ( cake eaters). The 2 powerplay goals were the difference. He said the rapids goalie was outstanding in period one keeping it scoreless, and then rapids got stronger as the game went on, then the ref,s got involved. Sounded like 2 evenly matched teams. The North will win in march, no matter which one of the 3 True North teams (East, Cloquet, G.R.) represent 7AA!!

I was directed behind the next and saw the whole thing. It hit the net plain as day.

As for a penalty, I saw no such call.

However, I agree I think GR might have hit 3 pipes and Jefferson got lucky on some calls. Also, #4 from GR was a hot head that showed more of an Eastview style of Hockey than the classy GR style I have come to respect and love. That kid got lucky on several calls and I saw they coach pull him for a talking to, so he could chill out. Kids needs to remember anger=penalties

Also, #3 from Jefferson was outstanding, but the refs kept picking on the little guy. He gets out of the box on his first penalty only seconds later to get drawn for another. It was kind of amusing


Also, if I remember correctly I was in GR for the 2005-2006 game against Jefferson's #1 ranked team at the time. Jefferson got the most rediculous penalties. That game had the worst reffing I have EVER seen and GR should have gotten worked that game if it werent for bad calls.
