If Lucia wants to shake things up, then he should bring back his perm and recruit better defensemen. This departure will be a good thing for Guentzel. Rumor had it he was always treated like the odd man out on the staff and he has too much to offer for this. I'll be interested to see where he ends up.

Guentzel to meet with SJU officials

Former University of Minnesota assistant hockey coach Mike Guentzel confirmed Sunday night that he will meet with St. John’s officials today to discuss the school’s vacant head coaching job. Guentzel stepped down last month after 14 seasons with the Gophers.
He said he has talked with John Harrington, who announced earlier this spring he was stepping down to take a professional head coaching job in Switzerland, and St. John’s athletic director Tom Stock about the opening.
“I’ve talked with them and I’m looking at it,” Guentzel said Sunday. “I’m going to sit down and visit with them, go through the process and see how it goes.”
Stock said last week that the school’s search committee had narrowed its pool to six candidates and that the plan was to bring two candidates to campus for interviews today and Tuesday.

Doug Schueller, an assistant coach at Division I Bowling Green, will be named head coach of the St. John’s hockey team Friday.
Schueller was one of two candidates the school interviewed for the position. The other — former Gophers assistant Mike Guentzel — informed school officials earlier this week that he was taking himself out of the search process.

Congratulations to Schueller.Stealth wrote:Doug Schueller, an assistant coach at Division I Bowling Green, will be named head coach of the St. John’s hockey team Friday.

Besides being an assistant coach at Bowling Green (where he played his college hockey), Schueller also was an assistant to Kevin Hartzell with Sioux Falls in the USHL.
Schueller is a 1995 graduate of White Bear Lake.

Gotta be a "Fighting Sux" fan - That's the most intelligent phrase they can come up with !

Mike to coach his son
The word is that Mike is going to coach at CC, and coaching his son Gabe who is going there is season. Isn't it funny how things happen, Lucia once coached there, etc.....
Good luck to a quality man and coach...
