pretty well sums it up!Neutron 14 wrote:Section 1 - 84-85 Burnsville
Section 2 - 98-99 Hastings
Section 3 - 03-04 Centennial
Section 4 - 00-01 Elk River
Section 5 - 92-93 Jefferson
Section 6 - 73-74 Edina East
Section 7 - 94-95 Duluth East
Section 8 - 89-90 Roseau
however, pull out 98-99 Hastings and insert 83' Hill Murray and pull out 89-90 Roseau and insert Henry Boucha's Warroad.
If I were to bracket this in seedings I would say:
1. 92-93 Jags (hands down best team ever)
2. 83' Pioneers (undefeated and REALLY SOLID)
3. 84-85 Burnsville
4. Boucha Era
5. Edina East
6. 94-95 Duluth East (Skill Skill SKill)
7. 00-01 Elk River (such an awesome physical team)
8. 03-04 Centennial (best of current era)
note: I dont know north hockey enough to defend my picks to death. If anybody has some input here it would be helpful. I know Eveleth, I. Falls, and Roseau had some REALLY GOOD teams. I pulled out the Roseau pick which may have been a bad call. I just dont know enough about that team to justify putting them up in my top 8

Try 3rd Place anyway we get your point would be fun to see it played with the 1946 rules and then with the 2007. Two completely different games.NeilGuf-yb wrote:Here's the fantasy tourney that would decide who really was the best team to come out of Roseau!

83 Hill Murray wasnt section 2, and that Hastings team was a great one.parrish4president wrote:pretty well sums it up!Neutron 14 wrote:Section 1 - 84-85 Burnsville

I'd love to see Henry too, but this is about teams and his team lost to the cake eaters.

I wasnt commenting per section, I just took his sections out and interpreted as best teams regardless of sections.Neutron 14 wrote:83 Hill Murray wasnt section 2, and that Hastings team was a great one.parrish4president wrote:pretty well sums it up!Neutron 14 wrote:Section 1 - 84-85 Burnsville

I'm too bitter even to talk to those Indian fans (though I loved their band and cheerleaders back then).Neutron 14 wrote:Section 1 - 84-85 Burnsville (2 State final flukes)

Dream team
I agree with Lee, gotta consider the 82-83 Hill team. Their tag line was "28 straight"
I also like the following teams:
- '77 Rochester JM team that beat Edina in finals
- Any of the Jefferson teams that won 3 straight, but especially '93 team
- 2001 ER

My tourney has a few teams who came up one win short of the big stage. Some of these programs marked the end of a storied history and for others it would be their last gasp before the programs or schools would close. Oh ya, this tourney has all the ingredients; a cinderella, some tradition, some religion, a little cake, and a good helping of flannel.
Section 1: '96 Mayo, their flashy gold Jersey's ignited a 1990's fad, the team was good too.
Section 2: '88 Duluth Denfeld, boy it was great when the Duluth schools could infiltrate and win a predominately metro section assuring a trifecta of flannel reps in St. Paul.
Section 3: '91 Hill Murray, muscled out three one goal victories in the section tournament enroute to cruising to a State Championship inside the clear boards.
Section 4: '83 Henry Sibley, I needed somebody with Cooperalls.
Section 5: '90 Mpls SW, very, very, very favorable seed kept them out of the Bloomingtons' bracket assuring them a seat in the section finals. Was a Mpls school's last shot at the big tourney and marked the end of an era.
Section 6: '84 Edina, what's a state tournament without these guys and that iconic coach with the cool hat?
Section 7: '79 Aurora-Hoyt Lakes, this is as close as this school would ever get to state as they advanced all the way to the section 7 title game. Who knew at the time the program would eventually need to co-op with a rival down the road.
Section 8: '77 Mt. St. Benedict, cinderella #7 seed rallied from 5 down in the 3rd period vs. Bemidji in the section quarters, died against the Brotens in the finals. The school would close its doors by the early 80's.
