Yes, I had my broomstick all ready to use by the end of tonight's game. Only one problem, though. The Gophers left their hearts in Minneapolis. Pretty sad effort last night, hopefully they can show up tonight.

What the hecks goin' on around here lately? Centennial sends my ' Spuds' home with all the experience that Moorhead will need to bring home the 'Title' in March, and St. Louis Park (Class A) knocks over Edina (Class AA) while Warroad lets Fungus Falls off easy with their 21st win by a 5 to nothin' score! Haven't heard the DECC this loud since maybe the '85 NCAA quarters when the Dogs knocked out Harvard. tUMD...first place. Amazing. Lee, The broomsticks being thrown onto the ice with time left on the clock is a disgrace. Granted, UMD swept the season series for the first time ever, but wait until time expires. Ballard's reaction was a disgrace as well. Which team has more talent? Clearly the Gophers. Which team has more heart? Clearly UMD, not even close. I'm a diehard Gopher fan, but they have no team chemistry this year. Its pretty sad. As far as I'm concerned, I'll trade you Vanek for Lessard! Vanek is a talent the likes of which hasn't been seen in a while, but he's brainless. I knew he was going to end up costing the Gophers a game sooner or later, and it happened on Friday. Why Lucia doesn't sit him down for a while is beyond me. With that being said, the season is far from over. The Gophers are looking at being in the play-in game of the Final Five. No team has ever won it if they had to play that game. There's a first time for everything. Regardless of the FF outcome, they will be in the NCAA anyway, so anything's possible. Being tournament tested has its benefits. If you can say one thing about the Gophers, they have shown the past 2 years that they know how to win when they absolutely HAVE TO. Don't count em out yet.

I had to do a little sweepin' myself, mostly around the edges of several other threads, as you might be surprised to know how many folks out there have all of their excuses lined up, regarding why Moorhead and Warroad will win the State 'Titles' in March of 2004. You know, excuses regarding "brackets", and "weak schedules", and breezy roads to the Title Game, and loaded metro sections. and nonsense like that! Well, UMD has certainly proven to be far superior to the gophers this season, and congrats to the dogs (I am a gopher fan but first and foremost a MN hockey fan). As for getting back to the topic... Moorhead and Warroad are both GREAT teams this year and will contend (no doubt) for titles in march, but as for the topic, couldnt we just as easily say that "section 5 dominates, fact of modern life" I mean they have AHA in AA and we all know that 5A is loaded... I still say that section 8AA is about the 3rd or 4th best in AA (from top to bottom) and 8A is 2nd best (from top to bottom). Heading into playoffs, it is Warroad's title to lose.... Moorhead has to knock some people off to take the championship... Either way, should be fun to watch!

Don't you just love it when you type out a nice long post, full of exuberance and wisom, and you hit the submit button and your internet goes to hell. Let's try again.... Lee, UMD has a great team, but I think they are playing with too much emotion right now. I'm happy for them, but they may just wear themselves down come playoff time. Its all about peaking at the right time...just ask the Gophers of '02 & '03. Yes, talent matters, but playing at or above your potential during the playoffs can will win you Championships, again, ask the Gophers. You could also as the Sioux, as they seem to have perfected the ritual of peaking right out of the gate, and falling apart when it really matters. Remember last year when they were unbeatable the first half of the year? The Susie fans were out in full force, practically handing their team the National Championship trophy in December. Then Mr. Pulltab decided to become a bigger sieve than usual. Even Christ himself (a.k.a. Parise, and yes UND fans do worship him) couldn't turn his team around. They appear to be doing the same thing this year. Awesome early on, maintaining the #1 rank for 13 weeks running, appearing unstoppable. Then they lose a game to the Gophs, get swept by Sconnie, and proceed to lose a home game to CC. I'm loving every minute of it! Speaking of peaking at the right time, the Gophers have yet to peak this year. Whether they will or not is in question, because this year's team doesn't appear to have the heart of years past. However, with Don "The Hair" Lucia behind the bench, anything is possible. Back to the excuses topic. Slappy, you're preaching to the choir. Every good team has to listen to that crap. Keep in mind I'm from your favorite city, Fungus Falls. Every year we hear the same crap: Horrible section, weak schedule (not even remotely true, but it comes up), easy first round game, etc. Jealousy can be pretty ugly at times.

Scheids..on the Gophers I couldn't be more with Lee. That series was awesome and it was great to see Duluth support the WCHA Leading Bulldogs all weekend. For the Gophs the older Potulny being out, Vanek's mystery injury and weak goaltending sealed their fate. Give the Dogs credit they have three fairly equal lines that don't give up goals very easily. On excuses, some of these teams fans are making them before and after their respective teams actually still win. Excuses before and after the fact are nothing new. For this reason, they hardly 'go against the grain.' However the Dogs sweeping the Gophers definitely does. Just because its a HS Hockey board, I will let it go. Agree with you though Scheidly on the fact that the same excuses thrown your way by various posters have reeled their ugly head and are now being used buy such posters in their arguments. Does this 'go against the grain?' How about an Edina fan that likes Little Falls. Is this 'against the grain?' One thing about the weekend that is NOT against the grain is slappies uncanny knack of predicting what will happen before it does. The only "Heartbreak Tour" you see and hear now is the one slapshooter is currently on detailing how the referees impacted the final result of the matinee game on Saturday. By most accounts, it sounds like the Spuds got outclassed and outworked and came up on the short end of the stick. Welcome to the unfriendly confines outside of "The Dominating Section 8" - a hard dose of reality that seems to go "against the grain" of many of prolific posters of this most excellent forum. A loss is a loss - let's not get caught up in bullying and namecalling. With all the horn-tooting some of these fine posters have been doing about their favorite teams, they have to expect a little grief to be thrown their way when their club comes out on the short end of the stick as we have had to endure voluminous posts about how they wouldn't. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> On to different matters: It appears that I made a "sucker's bet" earlier on in the season, but I have to stick to my guns. On the road and play that team to a 3- 1 game. Hardly any reason to get pessimistic. No, this changes nothing which is against the grain of many whom would otherwise not know but for those that do.

I stand by my opinion that the Gopher defense and lack of brains and desire to win had more to do with the losses than Briggs did. 6 for 10 on the PP for the weekend? That's not the goalie's fault. He didn't play as well as he has the past 3 months, but he did make several fantastic saves that kept it from being even more embarassing to Gopher Nation. The injury bug has finally bitten the Gophers after 2 relatively clean years. Potulny is the major one, but it sounds like he may play this weekend. Vanek...who knows what his problem is, but I'm getting to the point where I don't care. I'm frustrated with him more often than I am impressed. His penalty on Friday blew any chance they had to come back. How it ended up with him getting 4 minutes, and no extra minutes for UMD is beyond me though. Couldn't tell on the replay whether or not it was a full charge, but it was a cheap shot nonetheless. The UMD players on the ice absolutely mobbed him; punches can clearly be seen on replay, as well as the usual other stuff that happens during a frakas. However, this is when Vanek chose to think, and you can see him take every shot, and he didn't retaliate at all; just skated away. Maybe he's making progress after all. Ha, who am I kidding. I'll be done with that for now, as I don't want to be thrown into the "Full of excuses" pile, created by my former adversaries on here. I will be rooting for UMD to take it all if the Gophers aren't involved. With the notable exceptions of the Susies and St. Cloud Junior College, I'll pull for the WCHA any day. UMD is playing with a lot of emotion right now, and I hope it doesn't wear them out during playoff time, except if they play the Gophers, of course. Its worth repeating so I'll say it one final time: It's all about peaking at the right time. Scheids (A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Its funny how one man's complete control of a game is another man's close game. Cent. wins 3-1 and its said that was control? Friends listen closely, when Cent beats a team18-0 that means that they had control, when they win a game 3-1 that means it was close, either team with a bounce could have won. Cent winning doesn't mean alot now, didn't end Moorhead's season but next time expect to see Moorhead end this nice little run of Cent. You can put that in the bank!!

Well ... I don't consider these excuses; just "factors" that should be considered in the outcome of Centennial vs. Moorhead. If you disagree with these ... well then ... either you've never played sports, understanding fatigue factor ... or you don't understand the psychology of the game. Factor # 1: The game is @ Centennial (home ice advantage) - need I say more. Factor # 2: The game was played on Olympic-size ice sheet. Moorhead doesn't play, let alone practice on a sheet of ice that size. Centennial does every day. They know the angles behind the net better, plus bounces off the boards and the consistency of the ice (slow or fast). Factor # 3: Long road trip with bus legs and tough game against possibly the best (yes ... WBL ... may be better than Centennial) team in the state less than 17 hours before the drop of the puck against Centennial. Factor # 4: Sleeping in hard-rock beds in a hotel (if they got much sleep at all) after a hard-fought game against WBL. But hey ... I'm not going to use these as excuses ... I'm just going to lay out some facts and see what all you guys think. I'm wondering if there would have been a different outcome had these circumstances been reversed. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> I hope these teams meet at state to settle this once and for all. Remember ... these are factors a.k.a. 'variables', and any knowledgeable person with a background in statistics/science would acknowledge with a degree of reliability with significance that these variables may or may not have affected the outcome of what transpired in this contest. I'm laying it out there ... you be the judge.

Well VS, I kind of thought some of those things but I didnt realize that this stuff was scientifically provable ......within a reasonable degree of certainty, of course. So, scientifically speaking, one could argue that the Spuds won both games over the weekend. It would be consistent with what the computer thought. This type of thinking would be scientific for sure. Say, lets think this through. Science is a part of our LIFE. Scientific thinking is MODERN and deals with FACTS, as you have pointed out. Facts, modern, life....The facts of modern life. Joe, Slappy, Scout- Time for a reality check here. The spuds got taken out to the shed. A win is a win is a win is a win! Moorhead's fine tender stood on his head in the 2nd period Saturday or it would have looked like their final against Elk River in 2001. The spuds are a great team this year. They are not however in the same league as Centennial.
