Well, It looks like the ratings are finally catchin' up a bit. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> With 2 Class A teams in the top 3, Warroad ( #1 ) and Moorhead Class AA ( #2 ) and Breck ( #3 ), things around this thread lately should be getting quieter and quieter which is somewhat unfortunate, as this is without question, the most civilized thread to date regarding the A and AA discussion that I've seen at this most excellent forum. But the AA supremists persist in their position like a ....yup you guessed it ,chain, chain, chain,.... Chain of Fools. Class A is catchin up....Aint nothin like the real thing baby, aint nothin like the real thing. This changes evrything.

SS, I am trying to keep up but these threads are beginning to mesh together and I dont know if we are against the grain or factually modern or what. Anyway, the computer has decided to make a class A team #1. Well, well,well.This does more than just go against the grain. The computers keen eye and awareness has sent the supremacists underground. It must be difficult to bow to the AA god and then be afraid to open the sports page. This is different and it changes everything. Well, when this topic started , you warned them. You told them if they were faint of heart to move on. You told them that some of this may be hard to swallow. A prophetic understatement.

Well, the beat goes on doesnt it. The Star/ Tribune has 3 "A" teams in its top 10 today. It would be 4 if you consider AHA an A team, which by definition they are. Drum beats soundin a rythm to the brain....la da da da dee...lada da da dah.... Yah the beat goes on....

As we are all fans, rankings as I have mentioned in past years, is just to "spike" interest in us fans. Bragging rights so to speak. Is one ranking more reliable than another? I believe so, and I feel the respective teams ranked deserve to be in their positions. That being said, rankings do not win titles. Team USA in "80 was not ranked very high in the world rankings, yet pulled off what is now known as the "Miracle". Let me throw this at the board. If, as some believe, A and AA are on par, rather than have the two champs play for a true title, have A and AA play against each other in a 16 team tourney. Allow no teams to move up/down, rather place them by enrollment as is now. Thus, HM, Roseau, Greenway, Hibbing, etc... would all be A. You would regain the mystic of large school vs small school. This may go against the grain of some, as all teams would have to win against all competition to earn a title. If it was in place this year, odds would favor AA to dominate the tourney, but I believe Warroad could win the title.

I dont know if AA would dominate. Not if A gets AHA and Hill. This year it would be closer to close than domination. Moorehead and Centennial would be tough to deal with but after that, A might have the edge. I like the idea, so long as no A team gets to play at AA.

The rankings have a bit of a problem if it's as Ric Flair says "If you wanna be the man, you have to beat the man". How is Moorhead behind Warroad, a Moorhead team that has played a dramitically tougher scedule I might add. If A gets AHA and Hill Murray, I think realistically it changes nothing because these teams would likely have to be fed into one large metro section to balance out all the teams (7) that were sent packing from 1AA and 7AA, thereby probably weakening the A tournamnet all together. For petes sake, southern Minnesota would have to send 2 teams into the A field, plus a Lake team, AV or Jefferson, would be coming out of 1AA making that field tougher. Class A would have to pin their hopes on Lourdes or Duluth Marshall to hold up year after year, not a likely scenario. Realistically, a Class A field in Rusty's plan would include: Albert Lea-1, Mankato East-2, Duluth Marshall-3, Wadena-4, Breck-5, Orono-6, Virginia or Greenway-7, and Warroad-8. This hardly makes the A field any better. How would the AA champ who has to go through 5-6 tough games to win a state title feel playing a A champ whom maybe had 2 tough games the whole section and state run? Thats not fair at all.

I have an idea - lets make a 16 team state tournament comprised of A and AA teams. Also, lets force the AA and A schools to play each other during the season to get a good read on who is beating whom. My guess is that, maybe, one or two A teams would make it past the second round of a larger tournament. As a grad of Breck - playing during the years when all schools played on one platform - I believe that it is a dis-service to all players by splitting up the two division. I guess it has become more important for "johnny" to win a state title even if it means creating six different classes of hockey. Lets face it, the player want to be the best team in the state and the only way to accomplish that task to to group ALL teams together in one state tournament. I could not imaging my high school teams playing class A. Lastly, placing Breck at #2 of the Metro Poll is a farce until they play Edina, Centennial, Jefferson, Eden Prairie, WBL, Roseville, etc.....

SS, Look at them scramble. Its sad. Mitch comes out with all these statistics, goldy313 with all these facts. The grain has been gone against. Right , it wont make any difference if Hill and AHA are added to A . Those two schools played in a little contest in March 2002 for the AA championship. Geeeez! A schools have won the AA title. Put a power ranking on that. They would have won more if they didnt have to play each other in the AA tournamnet. Things have changed.

They horned in on the big boys butts that year which must have gone directly against the grain of at least some of the fine folk heretofore mentioned. There is no reason to back down nor to abandon any previously stated positon. It is important to get the facts first ......and then to distort them any way we please. If we cant convince em, confuse em. In this way, we find the truth and , of course the truth will set you free or ,as in this case, irritate people.

Keep up the good work though, Joe, and blatantly ignore the fact that small schools have been winning the state tournament for years. Which, of course, is absolutely the reason we should only have one tournament, rather than pretending that both titles are equally as important (which is to say, both titles are equally as difficult to win). If you really believe that, fine, but try adding your own points to the matter. The parrot act is getting a little old.

It's interesting that you bring up Roseau, who plays with the big boys unlike that chicken little Warroad program you tout as the next coming of the Red Army. Or that you bring up Hill Murray making it to the championship game 2 years ago, in which I still beleive Federal agents are still trying to figure out who paid the referees off to take that game away from Lakeville in probably the single worst display of officiating I have seen in my 25 years of going to the state tournament. And, I agree with Petey, the parrot is getting a bit old, I liked your points in another thread dealing with splitting up the 2 classes on an idea other than enrolment, but to say that you are not going to back down or abandon any previous position is a bit deceitful since you are giving a complete other position on a different thread.

If you read my posts then you will see that I ,in this thread and others , have pointed out the folly of comparing the classes. Thats hardly parroting anybody on this board because like sheep most people get into it big time, including people who post complaing about other peoples post's instead of offering anything substantive on the subject By pointing out that the classes are pretty close this year at the top, the 2 class system is exposed for what it is, a joke in its current form because it is mindlessly based on enrollment. Now, If there is someone else who has said that, I would appreciate it if either of you could point me in thAt persons direction so that I can parrot him. Otherwise I will leave it to you two sheep to keep the comparison going. Either way, I dont give a flying flip about what you think of my posts.

Take a look at the first page of the thread, joe, and count how many times our buddy slapshooter used that one. Again responding to JLS: "HM and Edina fell last week to BSM and SLP. Despite the fact that BSM is larger than Hill-Murray, of course, do we really need to count up the number of times that slapshooter has used "against the grain" in this thread? I can tell you for a fact that I've used it, but certainly not in support. On page 7 you put a horribly annoying Aretha Franklin song in my head, again at the alter of the great slapshooter. Same page, you refer to yourselves as "we" and those who find BCS style polls just a bit more than lacking in some areas (Warroad loses to Moorhead, Warroad has a worse record than Moorhead and has lost to the only two top ten teams it has played, Warroad is #1 and Moorhead 2? Please) as "them"? The most baffling of all: "A schools have won the AA title. Put a power ranking on that. They would have won more if they didnt have to play each other in the AA tournamnet." Wouldn't every AA team have more titles if they didn't have to play each other in the AA tournament as well? That's not a parrot of slapshooter or a bow at his throne, but what a strange comment. Nevermind that for years lots of people have been saying that private schools have no business being in the A tournament at all, as their enrollment is entirely irrelevant to their player base, of course. More: "It is important to get the facts first ......and then to distort them any way we please. If we cant convince em, confuse em. In this way, we find the truth and , of course the truth will set you free or ,as in this case, irritate people." "We"? "em"? You left it to me to keep the comparison going. I did that. Sorry, but it's right there for you to see. It might go against your grain, but that's pretty much the way it's been for a week now. Us vs. them. Joe and SS vs. "right wing AA supremecists" such as myself. It's a shame too. Up until you convinced yourself that midseason computer rankings confirmed everything there was to know about life, you were making sense. Now you're just left quoting Aretha and Dylan and telling slapshooter how right he is.
