off season

Just curious. Where do the girls go, or what does their schools coaching staff instruct them to do for training in the off season?
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Our coach recommends Total Hockey in Eagan. It's really a great camp.

A lot of the girls on the Lightning team do CODP or STP.

So the players are encouraged to join a camp. What about some type of league play?
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

OS does a great Spring Elite league.

There is a good College League in Edina @ Braemar during the summer (Showcase)

There is a new AAA league @ SSP this year that should be good. Run by the same people that do the Fall League there.

I like Acceleration MN & Total Hockey.

I think Len Fricke runs a great STP program.

I think CODP & OS do a nice job too.

The Model Camp at the U is great.

Many HS programs run great STP's. My girls skate with our boys in IGH sometimes, and also the boys coaches do Girls Only STP sessions too. One of the IGH boys assistants has been equipment manager for USA Women in the past - so that gives some nice connections too.

EP has a great Summer Program that often attracts many of the top players and college coaches too as instructors I hear.

I think Steffen runs a good skating intensive clinic.

I think the best shooting/scoring instructor is Bjugstad.

I think Stickhandling instruction by Bernie McBain/Minnesota Made is best.

Both Carroll and Guider do great work with goalies. I hear good things about Stauber too but don't have any first hand contact.

I hope to be involved with the creation of a new Elite League this fall, and think that if done right that this could really be great!

My daughter skates the summer program in Cottage Grove. Six week program, three days a week June-July. Hour on-ice and an hour of dryland a day. Park Girl's coach Eric Darwitz and St. Kate's coach Brad Marshall run it. Hamline men's asst. coach and U of M alum Jay Moser is going to be an instructor as well and Caitlin Hogan from North St. Paul is running the dryland.

Darwitz does a great job with this, and has great people involved too. Hogan is someone that all players could learn something from. Not only talented, but this kid works harder than ANYONE I've ever come into contact with in the game of hockey.

Total Hockey is a dry land facility, but they do have a summer on ice program. I think most older (high school aged) players prefer Acceleration as far as dry land facilities.

Have only seen a couple of sessions, but very impressed with what they are doing at Impact at STA.

Impact Hockey runs out of Minnetonka and STA. They offer a spring session, summer session, and a fall session. All sessions have ice time and dryland. Eric Johnson and his group do a fantastic job! I saw that they were a big supporter for the girls state tourney and the pre-banquet. Definitely worth checking out. I was told a number of the EP girls ran through the program last summer or fall, seemed to work for them.

As for a great goalie school, try Staubar's Goalcrease! the coaches there really make an effort to get to know each goalie beyond goaltending. One setback- IT IS VERY PRICEY. but if you ask me, well worth the money!

It sounds like one great G oportunity is the USA/MN camp being offered to the top 16 female G's in the state from Phase 2.
