Your thoughts/preview going into state...

Post by SEhockeyDAD »

Only a few days, so what's on your mind? I'll start with my daughters' team, Rochester Mayo/Lourdes.

Of their 6 losses, all were ranked, 4 ranked #1 at the time. Their only win over a ranked team was 7-3 over Grand Rapids/Greenway on 12/28, avenging an earlier loss to GRG. Their best game of the year was actually a loss, 3-2 to Blake, but it was a fast paced, intense game from start to finish and really could have gone either way. Except for 1 significant player, they all played at state last year. Hopefully, that experience reduces any jitters and boosts confidence.

Roch M/L & Coon Rapids common opponents:
vs. Rochester JM/Century
Roch M/L won 3 times, 5-1, 5-0, 5-2
CR won 5-2
vs. Eastview
Roch M/L won 8-5 (11/26)
CR won 3-2 (2/2)

As far as I know, Moorhead's never been mentioned this year in this forum. Anyone know much about them? Also haven't heard a ton about Roseville, Holy Angels & Coon Rapids.

RV AHA & CR aren't "overhyped" teams (meaning they don't get enough press), but are highly talented and get it done on the rink. Some may think they are over or underrated due to a lack of publicity, but to underestimate any of them would be a huge mistake I believe.

Since I was watching Eastview all season I got to see 5 of the teams in the AA bracket, some more than once.

When EV lost to Mayo, EV was having great difficulty in the defensive end. It was a little better later in the season.

I doubt I saw Coon Rapids at their best. It was senior night at CR, which sometimes affects the home team in strange ways. EV was massively outshot in the first two periods and that didn't count numerous rockets that missed the goal completely. The shots were even in the third and the game ended with furious activity near the CR goal. Eastview's leading scorer was sick and didn't make the trip. CR looked very good but didn't seem very good at actually getting the puck in the net.

I plan to go to all the games tomorrow. The first one should be very interesting.

Of the five teams I have seen I would order them thus:

EP - I cannot picture how anyone will beat them.
CEC
Mayo
Coon Rapids
Holy Angels

Just my opinion; I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

SEhockeyDad-
Roch/Mayo/Lds backed into this tournament. I watched this section final and they got plenty of help from the stripes. These guys couldn't hit their Class with both hands (Cl subtracted of course).

Good luck though - the team needs to skate with the big girls if they want to start a winning tradition. (First Trip to state???)

By the way my daughter plays for Racoon Falls. PC!
