AHA in AA

Post by Zamman »

Not a lot of talk about the gals from AHA. A fourth seed upsetting the number 1 and 3 seeds in this section. I think people feel that they cannot compete. I for one saw this year that when AHA is healthy (and they are) they can play right with the top teams in both classes. New Prague is rated pretty high in class A and AHA dominated them and so far in AA they show they can play. I think they will have a good shot at the championship game next weeks.

Anyone?
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Holy Angels knows how to play when it counts. They have as good of a shot as anyone! When you only have to win one game anything can happen!

Hockeyhead

I should add that many thought AHA should have received the top seed in 5AA. Not that I agree or disagree - but something that I heard many say...

Good question... What I mean is.. single elimination vs. winning the best of 2,3,4 series... Good teams are tough to beat twice... My quess is if BSM got a chance to play Wayzata again tonight there would be a different outcome. This is why the NHL plays a series and not single elim..

Hockeyhead

Alright that makes a lot of sense. I agree that it is easier to play one game serieses (sp?) but that still does not take away from the fact that they are a great team. plus, think about how much longer it would take if they did it by a three game series, casue if you did it for sections it would have to be done for state. It would take away from the tournament atmosphere of the big upset that everyone loves.

You're right... I'm not saying it should change... just saying anyone can lose and anyone can win... You only have to win one game! That's why SSP winning 86 in a row was such a huge deal!

Hockeyhead

I'd even settle for one of those hone & home mini-series that they do with the mini game @ the end of game 2 deciding it (extra 10 minutes or something?)... I can't remember how they do that... I believe the MIAC or NCAA uses this in some of their D3 playoff play...

WCHA used to do that and it was total goals that decided. In hockey the usual place they do a multigame series is the first game so that a 7 seed doesn't beat a 2 seed on a fluke.

I like it.

I'd also like a seeded statewide playoff though with regionals - and I know that will never happen...

And - I believe in Tier 1 & Tier 2 vs A & AA...

lol - and should mention that the one downfall with tiers is that there is then no incentive for bigger programs to 1) co-op as needed or 2) build their program.

I do believe that it is crazy though for some AA programs to be up there with the talent they have, and also think it's a bad move to force multi-A co-ops to play AA when they likely belong in A...

i agree with that, the co-ops should not be based on numbers but where they fit.

Zam,

My question to you is weren't you the one who was complaining in this forum about how this girls program was taking the boys ice before.....now a couple wins later and you're their #1 fan?

Hindsight is 20/20 unfortunately coaches rate section teams based on their season record, and I'm not sure what in their regular season record would warrant them being the #1 seed. Maybe if they had pulled off 1 more win against a higher rated team (ie EP, Way, BSM). There were 4 good teams in this section, and with the abundance of lake teams in the section, it was no surprise that the 2 lake teams ended up seeded 1 & 2. I think most going in said this section would be the toughest to rank.

With that said if they play their game AHA can compete, and the get the draw of being opposite section 6AA & 3AA in tourney bracket. They do have a tough draw out of the gate with the 2AA winner.

Listen up smart one, I am an AHA alum and support my school to the fullest. I am at a lot of the girls games because I work at the rink. Yes I was complaining about them taking the icetime.
You obviously did not care to read correctly. The "JV" girls team with 5 players takes a complete hour of prime time ice. I said that it would be better for the "JV" girls to join the varsity for some of their practices and keep the boys varsity team on their home ice.
I support girls hockey, my daughter is a part of the Richfield girls hockey team.
Any other smart comments.....

Oh I will be at the X to cheer on my high school at the tournament.....
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >Zamman at: 2/17/06 12:16 am

On a brighter note, the AHA girls will be on KSTP Sports Wrap tonight at 10:30 PM.

AHA JV

Post by hocnut11 »

Zam,

I wasn't trying to be a smart alec, I apologize if it came across that way, I just wasn't clear were you stood. I have read you are an alum, and work at the rink. I couldn't however tell by your previous posts on the girls side that you were a fan of the AHA girls program.

I don't know the program that well, but from what I have seen there was a pretty big disparity between there low end JV players and their varsity team. I had spoke with their JV coach, and was lead to believe that they had some players on the JV that were new to hockey this year.

My thoughts were just that it would be pretty hard to build a program of their caliber when you have beginning skaters and All-state players sharing the same sheet of ice. I guess if it is like you say, and they school supports the program enough to know that they need to separate players by skill level they should be applauded for knowing how to build two very quality programs at that school. When they don't have the luxury of being a primary tenant in a building.
