6A SF- #2 Northern Lakes vs #6 Willmar

Post by ClassAGuy »

#2 seed Northern Lakes (15-10-1) comes into this game having shut out Breckenridge/Wahpeton in the Section 6A Quarterfinals. The Lightning followed a familiar formula in the win as they let their large and talented Junior Class lead the charge. They got timely offense from Jrs. Josiah Reier, Parker Fulton & Griffen Hannah, and then they let their standout in net Jr. Sam Suja shut the door as he picked up his 4th shutout on the year. Now they head into the 6A Semifinals, but they did not play Willmar during the year. However, they have had plenty of success at the MAC during this time of year of late, so they know exactly what to expect in this 6A Semifinal.

#6 Seed Willmar (12-14-0) comes into this game having just been able to pull one of the biggest shockers of the Class A QF Round again when they upset #3 seed Fergus Falls, for a second straight year, who had beaten them twice during the year. Willmar does have an explosive offense led by Srs. Gibson Horyza & Blake Grimsley and Jrs Eli Hagen & Luke Larson, who all have double-digit goals on the year, but the surprise hero of the Otters' upset was Sr. Cooper Lownsbury, who doubled his goal output of the year with two in the game, including the game-winner late. However, if they want to win this one and get back to their 1st Section Final since 2011, they will need a big game in net out of goalie Jr. Eli Ewert, and they played in this game last year for experience, and they have nothing to lose as they play the role of Cinderella in Section 6A at the MAC this evening.
