Edina v. Wayzata
Is Edina undisciplined or just flat out unhinged? So many egregious late hits.

Re: Edina v. Wayzata
Haha… that was an ugly period for sure. A few days ago I said Edina plays right to the line, but they’ve crossed it and then some tonight. Feels like the Hornets are due for a good ol’ fashioned tirade from Giles. Maybe he does it at this intermission or maybe he bag skates them tonight with no school tomorrow.
Wayzata has had a more consistent jump in their steps. They haven’t exactly looked like Lady Byng nominees either in the discipline department.
All that said, it’s 4-3 headed to the 3rd.

And Edina still claws it out in OT. Playing some very unconvincing hockey since the Minnetonka win.

Welp, everybody decided to just play hockey in the 3rd and OT, and it was fun to watch. Hornets win 5-4.
That one has to sting for Wayzata, who played a great game.

The 3rd period and OT was good hockey. Classic Lake Conference close game.
I was surprised McConnell didn't get at least a misconduct for his antics. Thought the refs could have done a better job in the two periods of turning down the temperature and talking to the players/benches. Coincidental penalties don't do too much in taking control of the game. Kept thinking that someone is going to get seriously hurt with all the runs players were taking at each other after the whistle.

Edina is always hitting after the play is done, hitting high and when they do get called they whine and cry. Maybe if more refs would call it from the drop of the puck this type of play will stop. It is the intimidation factor that they win with.

Yep, I've been saying this about Edina for a couple of years. They weren't always known for this, either. They've had plenty of hard hitting teams with physical play, but still clean hockey.
I'm not surprised at Wayzata either. They looked very sharp against Hill last week.

Re: Edina v. Wayzata
I would agree that Edina has had their moments of being undisciplined and it is very concerning heading down the stretch and into the playoffs.
With that said, Wayzata does this every year to try and get under the Hornets skin. Yes, the Hornets need to be disciplined...no doubt.
Adding to the emotions are the fact that Edina has ended Wayzata's season the last four years and the fact they also scrimmage the first Saturday of the season. Wayzata attempts to send a message the first Saturday of the year much the same as they did Thursday night. Not sure I understand why you would scrimmage a team you could possibly see three times during the year but to each their own. I am just saying it adds fuel to the fire and emotions are high.

These boys have been playing against each other since they were 7 years old. I’m sure any animosity between them has been well earned.

Re: Edina v. Wayzata
I remember seeing a Wayzata - Edina game in the late 80's. It was Wayzata's first team that could give the Hornets a go, so I trekked from the Saintly City to what was then the Trojans' home building. It was fairly normal, until maybe late in the first or maybe in the second. The whistle blew, and out of nowhere, there hadn't been any after the whistle shoving or anything, a Wayzata kid grabs an Edina player and puts him in a head lock and wrestles him to the ice. It was right at center ice, as players were heading to the bench. And all these Wayzata fans stand up and roar, and when their guy gets called for 2, probably should have been 4, they get even more riled up at the injustice stripes had meted out. I thought it was hilarious. It was like decades of getting beat by Edina erupted. I've never seen anything like it since then, it made the whole trip worthwhile.WarmUpTheBus wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 10:04 pm These boys have been playing against each other since they were 7 years old.
