Burnsville Hockey
I believe Burnsville Girls are playing very well right now. Actually section 5AA is going to be a battle. Between Eagan, Burnsville, Holy Angels and CDH it could be anyones section. My pick is Burnsville, they are deep and they really move the puck. What does everyone else think?

Hockeyhead

5AA
Agreed that 5AA will be close. Right now, CDH has the edge in goaltending with Mickey Jobman, IMO, but it could depend on who's hot at the time.

Re: 5AA
I think section is up for grabs; will probably be determined by goal-tending. Eagan has two great goalies - Altmann & Grogan. They have a hard-working team with Berreman - good offensive defender. Holy Angels has probably best team on paper; however they are not always on same page. CDH - getting great goaltending from Jobman and solid defense from their three defenders. They don't give up many goals; and don't score many either. Haven't seen B-ville; looks like they are playing well of late. Handled Sibley pretty well. Should be good section playoff.

section 5AA will be difficult, as it pretty much has been the last couple years. With the addition of Holy Angels this year, it's going to be even harder. Burnsvilles hunting for it this year, keeping in mind they've been eliminated in the section championship two years in a row by CDH. Section 5 has depth, it should be interesting. It'll come down to who wants it most and whos willing to work that extra step to achieve it.

whatever burnsville JV and varsity are horrible half of them dont even no how to skate plus they played their Bantam A team and lost 20 to 0 in a 5 min. game yah their bad!

Re: ...Burnsville
The "horrible" Burnsville beat a pretty darn good Wayzata team yesterday 4-2 according to the paper. The "big two" at Wayzata, Lee & Johnson, were shut out. The shots look like 27-17 Wayzata, so about 60% of the action must have been in Burnsville's end.

Maybe Burnsville sent their non-horrible half to the game...

Re: ...Burnsville
Slapnthepuck is a first year bantam player. I think he got lost since all of his comments have been made on the Youth Hockey Site. (HEY SOMEBODY LOST THEIR SON?) Now we know why those under 16 need a parent chaperone at the Mall of America!
Obviously he doesn't know girls high school hockey very well. Both Burnsville and Wayzata are good! I think Burnsville is done with all their suspensions, it seems like they are rolling now! It’s making for a tough Section 5 tourney.

Hockeyhead

Re: ...Burnsville
Thanks for clarifying, hockeyhead! I figured something like that was the case. Burnsville & Wayzata could both go a long way - I think Wayzata will come back though neither team has an easy path to get there.

Re: ...Burnsville
I agree with you Hockeyhead. I think he is a Bantam player who sits on the bench!

Re: RE:
KRACH has them at 11 overall & in AA:

<a href="http://home.comcast.net/~simley/girls/R ...

Krach does inflate some teams with weaker SOS but big W totals unfortunately. Not quite as badly as the big W totals can fool rankers/section seedings without SOS considerations, but we see this issue a lot in class A with metro A teams losing 10-15 games against a strong SOS and then SOME (not all) non-metro A winning 10-15 and getting ranked higher without anywhere near similar SOS.

For example, I'd take St. Louis Park, Richfield, Lakeville S. and some other metro A's with 10-15 losses over some non-metros with weak SOS but many W's. But I see the SOS issues and others may just look at W's and not understand the dynamic of A, SOS, etc. either.

This is a similar argument re: "flaws" in KRACH Rankings & SOS where:

============
ghshockeyfan
Registered Member
Posts: 4181
(1/19/06 10:16 pm)
Reply | Edit Re: KRACH SOS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's still one potential "flaw" in the SOS consideration, Not really a flaw per se, as much as a point of interpretation. When working with averages, we have to understnad that a team with an arbitraty SOS value could achieve one specific value a multitude of ways.

For example, if a team played that top 10 teams of 100, and the bottom 10, they could get a SOS of ~ 50. (1+2+3+...+10)+(91+92+93+...+100)/20 = ~ 50

Similarly, a team could play teams 41-50 and 51-60 and get the same SOS...
(41+42+43+...+50)+(51+52+53+...+60)/20 = ~50

Who played the tougher schedule? The team that played 1-10 & 91-100? Or the team that played 41-50 & 51-60???

As a side note, if both teams went 10-10, the team that played the top 10 would be ranked (Power Ranking Wise) 90 or so (Krach assumes they only beat 91-100), and the team that played 41-60 would be ranked 50 or so (Krach assumes only beat 51-60) .
================

I think this is much more of an issue in A than AA, and many have pointed this out to me long ago - but now I think I can see where some of the math can lead to misleading interpreation as in the case above.
