I can confirm JV is warming up. I get hockey and 84 degree weather. I love southern California!

Although I'll be back in the motherland on Sunday.

Oh boy. Wayzata up 2-0 halfway through 1. Just able to hammer a few home when it counts.

Not surprised though. HM had a week off and didn't play well last week against Tartan. So I expected a slow start. We'll see how they do with a deficit. Good test early in the season.

A 5-2 final for HM. So what I've seen through 6 games of HM and 2 games of Wayzata. HM is a slugger. Their way to win is to overwhelm the other team with shots and offensive zone time. They win by scoring more goals. Wayzata is the classic counter puncher. Their way to win is play great defense, with great goal tending and to score when the opportunity arises. They did it against BSM, and they almost did it tonight. They can beat anyone in state. So don't count them out.

It’s remarkable how much Hill’s game has evolved this year. For over a decade, their identity was built around a strong, deep, and skilled defense paired with an offense that was effective but not necessarily explosive. This year, while their defensive unit remains outstanding, the skill and firepower on offense have clearly transformed their approach.

On average, they’re outshooting opponents by a staggering 52-18 margin. Their defensive unit has an offensive mindset and can put the puck in the net just as effectively as their forwards. I need to get out and watch more of their games this season, because it's been a while since a Hill team was built like this. The scary part: Hill teams almost always get better as the season progresses.

Yup! So good. In past recruiting cycles, we did fairly well. But the recent recruiting cycles have been really good. HM is setting up a well-funded NIL (MN is one of 33 states that allow it). So if you thought our recruiting was good before.....

Yeah, those pikers at Stillwater are laughably inept at this. They can't even slide a goalie into their program.

True dat, Blue. Lex's teams nearly always improve significantly the second time they play a team.

And all this scoring?!? Its just nuts, like, pinch me.

And to top the pie, Youth Hockey Hub had a peewee AA player of the game yesterday from Mahtomedi and his last name was Unklesbay. Just being happy for the future us.
