Top 10 teams: BETTER or WORSE?

Post by hockeyhead »

There have been some suggestions this year that the top 10 teams are not as good as the top 10 teams from last year. From my point of view it's a good question. I have listed what I feel were the top 10 teams from last years season. Please indicate which teams you think are better and which teams you think are worse this year. I think this might be an interesting thread?

2004-05 top 10 teams(alpha)

BSM
Centennial
Cloquet
Eden Prairie
Holy Angels
NSP
Roseville
SSP
Stillwater
Wayzata

Hockeyhead

I'll start...

BSM: UP
Centennial: Same
Cloquet: UP
Eden Prairie: UP
Holy Angels: Down
NSP: Down
Roseville: UP
SSP: Down
Stillwater: UP
Wayzata: Down

Pretty much like any year! I found 5 teams that are better than last year, 1 equal, and 4 teams that are not as good. In opinion the top 10 teams are equal to last years top ten. At least at this point. Anyone else care to take a shot at this?

Hockeyhead

It seems to me that there are a few stand out players on all the good teams every year. What has changed is the depth of the 2nd and 3rd lines and better goalies. Teams that have added some depth by getting better younger players and developing them, as well as goalies who have actually trained has made a big difference. Teams that haven't done that don't look as good while others look better. A few years ago, a team with an outstanding goalie and a good player or two took all, while there were teams with a few stand out players, but with a horrible goalie or nothing at the 2nd and 3rd lines that no one noticed. Now more of the good players and are getting noticed because there is support behind them on the team, both in the depth and the goaltending. The top competition seems a little more even. That being said, competition in conferences is not equal so it is still difficult to compare apples to oranges.
