First of all, this isn't your board and anyone with an opinion can jump in when they feel like it. Second, of all the conversations on this board, the ones with you seem to allways end up childish. Since it can't possibly be you, I guess you just have the ability to bring that out in other people.

Fellow girls hockey enthusiasts,

At the risk of sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, I would remind all of us how lucky we are to be involved in such a fun and rewarding sport such as girls hockey. It's needs to be about the kids - that's why we I agree with GHS that we should stay positive at all times.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. We have a right to disagree with one another, RESPECTFULLY !!! We have a responsibility to talk factually for the sake of the kids !!! However, some posters like to be more ARGUMENATIVE than others, and some of their posts have a little EDGE/BITE to them, all of which leads to negative and non-productive ranting, silliness, etc.

Hockey brings out the passion in all of us - that's what makes the sport so intense. Let's keep it rained in on this board, so that we can enjoy it for many years to come. I for one, have truely enjoyed the thoughts and opinions shared on this board, even the ones that I strongly disagree with.
Keep up the good work GHS.

I now get down from my soapbox.

Rube

While I don't care - I do think this was one of my favorite posts:

ARM
Registered Member
Posts: 59
(8/12/05 4:12 pm)
Reply Biased Selections
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clearly, "Let's Play Hockey" is biased in its selections. They only pick future Gophers for Ms. Hockey because ... well, I guess it really doesn't benefit them in the least to give it to a future Gopher. Still, the award must be biased, brooky. Consider all of this evidence, and you'll clearly conclude that "these facts speak for themselves" ...

Brodt -- nobody knew she was going to be a Gopher (Minnesota didn't even have a team at the time.) In fact, she wouldn't even play for UNH for an extra year out of HS. But since she wound up eventually with the "M" on her jersey, this is clearly exhibit A.

Holmes -- didn't attend Minnesota, which now had a team. This doesn't support my argument, so I will conveniently ignore her and won't mention her again in this debate.

Slominski -- sure she went on to have a nice career at Minnesota and is one of the players still in the running for a spot on Team USA, but clearly she would have had no chance of winning Ms. Hockey without a conspiracy -- exhibit B.

Ronda Curtin -- All American at Minnesota, plus a top 3 finisher for the Patty Kaz'. Led her team to a state title as a senior, but I only give weight to this item if it supports my case, so I'll ignore it this time. Don't care how much of an impact player she was in the early days of girls HS hockey in Minnesota, this had to be fixed -- exhibit C.

Wendell -- not committed to Minnesota when she won, but her brother was a Gopher (maybe that counts?) Hey, she only played two years of girls hockey, so how could she have won on merit? Bias running rampant. Exhibit D.

Renee Curtin -- at this point I think I'm seeing as much Roseville bias as Gopher bias. No matter, exhibit E.

Albrecht -- let's see, she was the best senior on the best team, so I can't use my team success argument. There must have been a better player that year. How about that Darwitz kid? Or wait, she'd have been a Gopher too, and I guess she wasn't eligible. Let's just claim bias and let someone else counter the argument -- exhibit F.

Nichols -- don't care how many points she scored or how well her team did, she couldn't have won without bias. Besides, she was short. Who should have won? How should I know! Listen, there's bias, trust me -- exhibit G.

McKenzie -- (here's where no state tourney apperances becomes our ace in the hole) I don't care how many points she scored in HS or how weak the teams she played on were, it's time to state that someone from the state champs should have won. Maybe that kid who anchored their blueline and scored the championship clinching goal. Oops, another future Gopher. Maybe that's the problem, the Gophers have hogged too many of the best players over the years. Forget it -- exhibit H.

Marvin -- there were at least 100 seniors in the state better than her last year. Proof? I don't need proof, I just have to state it, and then I can put the burden on others to prove that there weren't. Anyway, we're up to Exhibit I.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 8/31/05 7:36 pm

I think that's a good guess on your part (unless it's more than a guess) regarding B from The B school. A real possibility...even a likelihood IMO as well. Large percentage of "wicked smart" youngsters at The B School.

You may want to read through all the posts in this thread, and then tread very carefully into these waters. While you, and many people do and have agreed with your wondering aloud if there has been a U of M slant on Ms Hockey, thats not allowed to be discussed on this Board. You will be ripped and called names if you continue. And definitely dont make the mistake of coming off your point and instead trying to make a case that person A or person B may have merited the award, as the 2 high and the mighty ones will still jump you for the "U of M Slant" even after you have clearly moved on to a differnt topic. The great thing is, they will even go back and edit their posts (well after you responded to it), and "soften" it so they dont look like they are ripping you as much. So, brace yourself, but dont worry -- just ignore the smug arrogant comments you already have seen and which will undoubtedly get worse should you continue. Be careful!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeygal at: 9/1/05 11:11 am

Last Ms. Hockey Winner Not Committed to U of M

Post by ARM »

darmarules' -- "... when was the last time someone got "ms hockey" that was not already going to the U."

I think the answer to your question (although you likely didn't really intend it as a question) was 2000. K.W. did not commit to Minnesota until long after winning the award.

Re: Awards

Post by hockeymomma2020 »

I'm reading this thread and wondering what these kids are taught these days. Are we so wrapped up in "who got gipped" from an award that we will rip the girls who did win the award character?? I will go out on a limb and take a wild guess that all these Ms. Hockey award winners would gladly pass on it for a chance to win a state title. I mean, this should be the focus, right? You can have all the bias you want toward a certain player but the bottom line is that that player doesn't have a verbal say in receiving that high honor. I am fairly close to the Wendell family and I recall something Krissy had mentioned at her banquet as far as winning the award. I believe it was along the lines of, "if I don't win a state title, this isn't enough to heal that wound." Now, don't get her wrong in that she wasn't appreciative of the award, but knowing her attitude and her character, I think she made a pretty good point/standard for other Ms. Hockey winners, even the ones that people feel shouldn't have won it. I feel, as a hockey community, we need, for the sake of these kids who look up to us "wise" adults, to keep in perspective that there should be no "war" over individual awards but rather there are "battles" for team awards. Lets all do these kids a favor and teach "the good lesson" of team.

brooky,

I think your right.

THUNDSTROM Ms. Hockey 2006

I do wish they would have 3 forwards and 2 defenders for the final 5.

Stohr from SSP is a great defensive defenseman and nobody is talking about her.

Defenders are suppose to stop the player from shooting, get the puck out of their zone and keep the puck in the offensive zone. Now if they can do all of this and then rack up the points (mostly from the blue line) then you have an extremely well rounded player. Most the time we promote offensive defenders and they don't play D. We only hear about them because they have a lot of points. I don't think Storh had a lot of points last year but she did her job and she did it well. I think to truly evaluate a true defenseman you need to go and watch them play. They are rare these days.
