Don't agree Joe. That was too good of a game to say that. St. Thomas is good enough to win it all.
Re: Andover St. Thomas Academy
Andover was clearly the better team: they just let STA win a game they had no business winninggrindiangrad-80 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:30 pm Don't agree Joe. That was too good of a game to say that. St. Thomas is good enough to win it all.

Congrats to STA, they played their system to a T & their goalie was Red Hot. Plus this was Andovers first ever appearance in a AA State tourney (which is pressure packed for the inexperienced)...but at least they accomplished that coming out of 7AA, which was a significant accomplishment (nonetheless tonight’s result)

Only time I have seen your team play 59, nice club, just ran into a very hot St. Thomas goalie. First time at the big dance is a proud accomplishment to your seniors.hockey59 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:34 pmCongrats to STA, they played their system to a T & their goalie was Red Hot. I agree that Andover would probably beat them 6 or 7 out of 10. I'm just saying it was far from a choke. The Huskies played well.Joe2015 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:32 pmAndover was clearly the better team: they just let STA win a game they had no business winninggrindiangrad-80 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:30 pm Don't agree Joe. So did St. Thomas.

I’d like to know how many times STA iced the puck in the 3rd

I make my to California and back twice a month. It would be cool to hit a round with you sometime. I'm a bogey guy at best but would definitely make sure we had plenty of cold ones.
Good luck to Hill.

Absolutely. And I'm incredibly happy your ladies took out Edina. It sucks being the better team and not winning. I've seen it too many times. I've also been on the other side. I knew STA was a tough draw for anyone. They played really well tonight and deserve praise for how they played. I hope Andover can get over Marriucci and win a couple games to set the tone for next time back.hockey59 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:34 pmCongrats to STA, they played their system to a T & their goalie was Red Hot. Thanks Oldtimer...Andover was my quasi team this year (having been birthed by the Tornadoes in the early 2000’s) and they’ve had a good season. Making it to AA State was a critical 1st Big accomplishment for their program.northwoods oldtimer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:38 pmOnly time I have seen your team play 59, nice club, just ran into a very hot St. Thomas goalie. Re: Andover St. Thomas Academy
One of the worst kept secrets in high school sports was that the Classic Suburban Conference schools were tired of STA embarrassing the conference by not winning a quarterfinal game since moving to AA. With schools like Hill-Murray, Hastings, South St. Paul, and Sibley, advancing past the first round is an expectation, not a hope for the best scenario. This isn’t the Suburban East for Pete’s sake! So the schools had no choice but to threaten STA with expulsion unless they got their act together. The thought that maybe a name change might spur the Cadets on to at least meet minimum conference standards was agreed upon so they reformed under the new name of the Metro East Conference.
With STA winning a quarterfinal game last year, the Metro East once again became the premiere high school hockey conference in not only the state but the country. Hence the name the Tradition Rich Metro East Conference.

NW is right on. I hadn't seen them play before tonight either. They were as good as advertised. This years tournament is shaping up to be the best one in a long time.hockey59 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:51 pmThanks Oldtimer...Andover was my quasi team this year (having been birthed by the Tornadoes in the early 2000’s) and they’ve had a good season. When I saw Andover early in the year Wolff and Kaiser played together as they did last season. It allowed Wolff to be a bigger factor rushing the puck and getting up in the attack. They could have used that tonight.

STA did a great job clogging the middle inside their own blue line. When Andover finally got something through, Aitken was a wall. If Andover could have tied it, I think there would have been a 95% chance they would win it based on how they controlled play late.

Hmm not sure I'd go that far...3 privates and EP in the final 4. But some interesting storylines and upsets.grindiangrad-80 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 9:01 pmNW is right on. Great win by Eigner and the team against a high-powered Huskies squad.

Re: Andover St. Thomas Academy
They were the favorites in A, but I guess STA likes playing the underdog now these last two years lol. A head scratcher for Andover. Dominated the boards and physical play but faced superb goaltending.
I can splash in the rink puddles!

Re: Andover St. Thomas Academy
Shock of the tourney !
Andover had 8 of the top 30 scorers in the tourney , and Cadets had 1
Hot STa goalie!
At least Andover got the girls title away from Edina !

Weak representation of 7AA.
Both Andover and White Bear Lake. Same ol’ thing.

Re: Andover St. Thomas Academy
To me, HM throttling Moorhead 5-1 was a bigger surprise than STA pulling off the upset on Andover. As good as Kaiser & Wolfe are on the blue line, there’s simply no Nick Pierre, Ben Steeves, Joe Miller level forward on Andover, and that...combined with an average at best performance by their goaltender (while in contrast STA goalie literally stood on his head between the pipes)...proved fatal to Andovers championship hopes. But, that’s Hockey
