Me and my big mouth
So, just before the start of tonight's tUMD vs. BSU game, I yell down at the BSU bench "forget it, guys, nobody loses twice in a row to a CHA team unless it's another CHA team"

Maybe I should have looked at the team sitting on the other side of the ice. Man, this was more brutal than I can easily describe. Last night, they fought hard in the third period and almost tied it up. Tonight, they just gave up.

And goaltending appears, at this very early stage, to be a weak point for the Bulldogs. No way in heck would I have thought this, but three huge mistakes, one apiece by their #1, #2 and #3 goalie, have me convinced that it was the D in front of them that made them look good in the past.

Or maybe I'm wrong. But I doubt it.

What a waste. They move the opponents bench across the ice this season to within ten feet of my voice, and my Dogs give me nothing to yell smack about.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Re: beavers
Didn't surprise me.....Alaska had many returning this year and returning with alot of heart. Let's see what the young goalie for the Gophers does tonight...didn't sound like Lucia was going to change his original plan of netminders even after suffering a loss.

beavers
Beavers end up 4-0 with a sweep of Mankato. 3 MSU players were ejected including Captain David Backus for checking from behind.

East hockey, why dont you give goalie a shot? I'd like to see how well you fair.

rookie up front
The worst defense in an argument is to ask your adversary to 'try it'. East Hockey is well past the age of playing goalie. But all of us have our opinions of how well someone performs - especially of those in position that should be good at what they do (UMD goalies should be good at net minding vs. say a peewee B goalie).

I, for one, would like to hear 'why' the bulldog goaltending may be better than average this year. They were not good against the Beavers. Although my opinion is that the Beavers made them look bad - being a Beaver fan.

Re: what were the 3 big mistakes
Elliot and East,

What were the big mistakes that each Bulldog goalie individually made? I am more interested in an answer to that rather than what it is that should make each better than the average goalie. Curious as to what you saw.

Re: what were the 3 big mistakes
I only listened to Fri game.
Saturday game - Beavers scored on a tight angle shot.
The goalie (Johnson I believe) came across too slow and failed to tighten up to the pipe and close the 5 hole.
It was as if he did not expect a shot. Of course, as a goalie and the puck in your zone - always expect anything.
Thought it was a big mentla error on his part and if I remember he may have been pulled after that goal.
The other goal I remember was the goalie leaving the net with 2 players rushing for the puck. The puck was played and lucky for Bemidji ended up on his stick after the play and easy into the goal.
The error to me was in leaving the net - it was not a clear cut one on 0. And if it had been you need to decide and act - he was not difinitive enough. And then his stickhandling was not very good in trying to send the puck out of the zone.

Re: what were the 3 big mistakes
Fridays game involved Issac coming to challenge the shooter (like Nate did saturday) and they scored on him just like they did on Nate the next night that was fridays 3rd (and game winning goal) I hope these 3 have learned some lessons 1. to never underestimate a team not in their league. and 2. stay close to your goal.
