Been a Joey Pierce fan since summer after 8th grade in Bantam Elite league . Played 2 years older at that time and has not disappointed since. Would be flabbergasted if not somewhere in an NCHC or upper tier WCHA queue soon . He is a difference maker defenseman .
On to this years Mr Hockey . You’ve probably got the correct 10 . But one for sure doesn’t deserve it , and future is overrated . One other I’m only 55/45 on . Wouldnt shock me to see Luc Laylin made it into the list , if I had to pick an alternate , since I see a commit ahead
Been agonizing about Biondi vs Gleason all year. . Who should win it vs who will . I’ll probably change my mind again, but I’ll say Biondi will win
Agree on two finalists for Brimsek
Why not a Reed Larson list. That’s Kaisers for sure.

WM.
I enjoy your comments but please explain who you think shouldn't be on their list and why?
You don't have to bash the kids obviously but welcome your thoughts constructively
Also who would you replace these kids with...

I think if Hermantown was playing AA hockey, Biondi winning MR. HOCKEY would be a fait accompli (at this point). But HT doesn’t play AA, and it may be the difference. Gleason is virtually equally accomplished as a HS senior & player...and also deserving. Everyone else is competing for 2nd runner up.WestMetro wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:59 pm Good show

There is a list of 2-3 on one echelon and then a list of about 15-20 other that you could almost pull out of a hat at that point, certainly some prestige in being one of the 10 finalists and lots of deserving options, picking those last couple is no easy task.hockey59 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:44 pmI think if Hermantown was playing AA hockey, Biondi winning MR. Why not a Reed Larson list. That’s Kaisers for sure.I also think the list of 10 finalists the boys came up with...is OFF by 2 or maybe 3. Not that all aren’t potentially deserving, but I don’t agree with some of the last 3 picks, just my opinion, or the logic they used in selecting them. But it’s all in good fun, time will tell who’s predictions are more accurate

Agree 100%...but that also ties directly to why I disagree on 2 or 3InThePipes wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:52 pmThere is a list of 2-3 on one echelon and then a list of about 15-20 other that you could almost pull out of a hat at that point, certainly some prestige in being one of the 10 finalists and lots of deserving options, picking those last couple is no easy task.hockey59 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:44 pmI think if Hermantown was playing AA hockey, Biondi winning MR. If Hermantown were in AA, they wouldn't have played Fort Frances (Ont), Duluth Marshall, or some other weak A teams. Biondi is a great player, but 15 of his points came in just two games against those two teams I named. CDH might have played a schedule roughly as tough as Hermantown's, but they didn't play any teams nearly as weak as Duluth Marshall and Fort Frances or some of the other A teams Hermantown has played.
Gleason is more accomplished this season as a senior (and more in his H.S career in 4 seasons) than Biondi this season. If that's the standard used to award Mr. Hockey, Gleason is in front right now.

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - February 2
Gleason is the best player in the state this year but Biondi will win the award.
Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - February 2
You do realize that Duluth Marshall is in 7AA and also in the same conference as Hermantown, so they still would be playing one another if the Hawks moved to AA.55116fan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 1:43 pm If Hermantown were in AA, they wouldn't have played Fort Frances (Ont), Duluth Marshall, or some other weak A teams. My 10 Mr Hockey Finalists 1. Biondi HT (UMD) 2. Gleason CDH (CC) 3. Kaiser Andover (UMD) 4. Slukynsky Warroad (NMU) 5. Richels Blaine (New Hampshire) 6. Schweitzer BSM (CC) 7. Bushy TRF (SCSU) 8. Warner SCC (MN) 9. Boltmann Edina (MN) 10. Steeves EP (UMD). The committee usually takes a few outstate players (I don’t consider Duluth outstate ) In this case, two from NW MN & one from central MN (SC) seems about right, then one from Duluth/da range
and 6 from the metro area. The geographical dynamic factors in to the selection process too (to some degree)

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - February 2
My take, the first 6 are pretty easy, BB, MG, CR, WK, GS (based on his #’s & the year Warroad is having) & Schweitzer (based on his Central scouting rank). Gotta go Warner over Smith, Smith has missed too many games. Bushy is carrying his team, lives outstate, is ranked by CS, and has a brother who plays at SCSU. Boltmann is a Defensive D, his point total is anemic, but he’s physical, hard to play against & ranked in the top 100 by CS. The last pick is the toughest. I’d be totally OK with BS or JM from EP, both are deserving & somebody from EP will be a finalist. But, when you combine the Elite League with the regular season (to this point) I simply think Steeves has had a better year, (despite being a move in last year from NH)
