I can't speak for the Cities teams, but I think the Rapids, Cloquet and East fans would disagree with that. The Section playoffs are like Christmas for those folks. They would be sending buses regardless of where the games were played.
True statement. She is a whine fest up in here today. Roseau, Rapids, Hermantown, Cloquet and East have been traveling to metro for games for many, many years now, squirt through HS. Part of getting better and playing great competition. Ask any parent up north, its a helluva commitment playing hockey year to year but you travel to get better. It is reality that comes with living out state.
To be honest I'd like to see section 7 and 8 combined into one north AA section. We can split between Sanford and Amsoil alternating years and avoid the whining.
That’s actually a very logical suggestion Old Timer! Problem would be all the whining about a maximum of one northern out-State team making the tourney. 😉 And rotating between Bemidji & Duluth would be perfect for the Final & KBJR could still broadcast the final on TV 👍
It been done at youth level now for a fare number of years. The all north regional is a good experience. Don't have any problem sending one north team to St. Paul for AA.

kniven wrote: Mon Feb 25, 2019 3:30 pm Grand Rapids and Duluth East are the big programs up north so they would have the most pull/say in the matter. As a fan of 218 puck, I rally could care less were SF and final are located.
That’s easy to say when your team lives 20 minutes from Amsoil. You might care more if (your team was) driving to St Cloud for the Semifinals & Final.
Nope. We drive always to the metro for youth hockey tournaments. And I’m a fan, not a parent of a player. Northern teams are driving forever and ever squirts to bantams.
Guess what, metro youth teams drive "up north" for tournaments all the time as well. Have you ever heard of the spirt of Duluth or the many tournaments in Roseau, Brainard, Bemidji, Moorhead? Great tournaments comprised of mostly metro teams. Very bad example.

A good number of metro associations only allow one travel tournament a year. #-o
Teams used to schedule more home and home with the north teams but I think the AA/A split put an end to much of the scheduling.

Maybe so, but at Bantam AA, two out of town tournaments and a northern swing where we played GR, Hermantown, DE and Cloquet. EP, MG, Edina were at both of those out of town tournaments. I don't know what the masses do, but my PW also had two out of town tournaments. Maybe some A or lower level teams are only allowing one, but doesn't seem to be across the board.
No one in Minnesota, cites or up north should really complain about travel costs. Take a look at other parts of the country and the travel schedule for tier 1 teams. Playing a fall blades schedule as an example, just a portion of a season of what the rest of the country is like, it is a lot more expensive and doesn't involve drives from the range to the cites, it is flights and 400+ mile drives, but like you said, it is a choice to live where you do and know what comes along with it, just like deciding to play with the blades and incur the costs. Why? to get better.
Sorry, it just does not seem rational to me to have two teams play each other 200 miles away in a mostly empty rink when they are 20 miles from each other.
The Mrs.'s is watching the bachelor, so I will pass, but thanks!

In all reality for the finals or semis it doesn’t matter for the rapids fans or players were it’s played they are going to have to drive at least a hour no matter what, Rapids is used to travel not many metro teams come play us in youth at home so they travel to the metro 3-5 weekends a year on average not counting trips to Moorhead and Roseau witch is another 3 or so hours. I know in the past I complained about east at Amsoil but it doesn’t matter if you play hard the best team on that day is going to win.
