Lower attendance at state tournament this year?

Post by hermantown2000 »

I have noticed the seats at the X have been very empty. The STA Maple Grove game is about to start but there are still a lot of empty seats Is it just me or is attendance dropping at the state tournament?

The morning session yesterday set a record for attendance. I'll have some of whatever you're having.

EDIT
I'll really have some of whatever you're having if you're watching STA play Maple Grove

It's just you. In 2015, the current attendance record was set which would be considered very recent. You're looking at a pretty small sample size if you're just referring to the AA morning session today.

Not sure you're at the right game.

That's a good crowd for the afternoon session. They are only selling SRO at the windows. Expect 20,000 for tonight.

Attendance this afternoon seemed as small as the new program design. How cheap can the MSHSL get? Trimmed out a lot of the good stuff and the font is so small I envision them selling state tourney magnifying glasses next year so you can read the damn thing.

And jeez did the refs struggle today with off sides and icing calls. Is this the best refs they can find?

Remember that the MSHSL mission is about equity and fairness and diversity. More important to involve all than have the best.

Don't even get me started on the program. I will be writing and please everyone do the same. No last year recap plus the 10, 25 and 40 year recap. Always enjoy the random story from years past as well. Do they not know that history, tradition, and nostalgia are major selling points of the tournament? What could you possibly be thinking?

Great day at the tourney though. Great play and great games. Looking forward to tomorrow.

I heard the program for One Act Play was solid.

Totally agree with you. The program is a huge disappointment. They'd also have a nice article pertaining to the tournament, a team or some players. The tiny print makes it hard to read for us old timers. Must be cheaper to make, remember you're dealing with the MSHSL and their only concern is money.

I guess I was wrong about the attendance. It just seemed like on tv that there was lower attendance then usual(Hermantown's game in particular). There was good attendance last night and there seems to be a decent crowd watching the Monticello/Northfield game right now.

No harm done. Sometimes the attendance figures don't make sense when they show the crowds on tv because 1 ticket gets you two games. I'm sure some people watch both games but you have to think that many people leave after the first game or show up after the first game depending on who you have a rooting interest in.
