I agree that it looked worse than it was, although I think that may be a little influenced by the fact he eventually got up and skated away, but IMO the 5 min major was the perfect call. Have to call it because in the end it is a dangerous call but I think anything more would have been unnecessary because his intent was clearly not to do anything vicious and just got some bad luck on how violent it looked.BowlusGoon wrote:I was in the building and this should have been 2:00. Might be a result of the refs really letting them play. They could have called a handful of other penalties let alone another 5 minute major earlier in the game

Boarding is when player checks a defenseless opponent violently into the wall. I am fine with the penalty, however It was not evident to everyone in the arena that it should have been a game misconduct was more of my point. I saw Anderson leaning on Sullivan and Sullivan pushed Matt as he started to pull ahead of him a little and Matt slide into the board. Remember this rink is a lot deeper than an NHL rink. It looked more worse than it was, as eveident by Matt playing full speed the rest of the game. I didnt think it was a check, it looked to me like a cross check or a shove. Glad Matt was not hurt.redtundra wrote:It was BECAUSE the hit took place before they crossed the goal line that it was a 5 minute major for boarding. The definition of boarding is NOT "intentionally illegal hit". It is "being launched into the boards as a result of a hit". When a player is away form the boards a bit is WHEN they get launched. Anderson being leaning or off balance is also irrelevant to the call and in fact only adds to the possibility of the hit leading to a board (launched into the boards). It was a 5 minute major and could have added a game. Not because it was dirty, but because of the violence of how Anderson was launched into the boards. Sullivan is a great, clean player. As far as the game, it was excellent. Two very good teams playing a heavy weight game. EP's 3rd goal was the one that really mattered as far as the outcome of the game. Still not sure how that went in. But congrats to both teams on an awesome game. EP will be tough to beat with CM on all cylinders.Ref22 wrote:BowlusGoon wrote: I was in the building and this should have been 2:00. Sorry I don't agree with that. Can't give two for a boarding with injury anyway.
On a different note, there is a great 30 second clip on twitter showing the last scoring chance for HF with a few seconds left. Tabor makes a great pass to Byers in the slot who one-times it and Wiencek makes an awesome goal saving toe save deflecting it just wide. Very Zapruder-like grainy film quality as well - and guy at very end in hat is priceless.

Our group (full disclosure, northern MN guys so no allegiance) didn't think it was 5. Race for the puck, both guys leaning and Matt took the worst of it unfortunately. Glad he was OK.BowlusGoon wrote:Boarding is when player checks a defenseless opponent violently into the wall. Whoever brought up the Mittelstadt example was correct. You have to call that too. But in the end to me its the refs calling the outcome and not the play. EP goal, no call. Matt hurt, call. Everyone can see things differently...that's fine, but just the way our group saw it.
I am a computer idiot. Hope this works!The51 wrote:link?redtundra wrote:On a different note, there is a great 30 second clip on twitter showing the last scoring chance for HF with a few seconds left.
