One last reminder for those who haven't completed all of their predictions. I'll also send pm's so hopefully you'll see one or the other.

Both 2A and 6A will get started at 7:00PM tonight (Thursday) so you must add before then to be counted.

Missing 6A only: mnhockey3535, nu2hockey, puckdreams, spars46
Missing both 2A and 6A: hugo_lucas, u12dad

Also, leaders so far based on last night's games - all "Semi Teams Points" which are one point each. Really too early to mean much of anything as all the real meaningful games (in terms of points) are still to be played.

1. massalsa - 10

2. MNHockeyFan - 9
u12dad - 9

Whew, a flurry of activity at the end but everyone got their missing predictions posted! Everything looks good, except we will not be able to count Section 1A or 3A for The Bone as these were posted after last night’s deadline. The one game in 5A is OK because it did not enter into the point totals.

Lots of games tonight. Look for an updated Leaderboard to be posted when all the scores are in.

Thanks,

7A - #5 Moose Lake-Willow River 3, #4 International Falls 2 (OT)

Note to self: Next year go for #5 seed over #4 seed!

Congrats and good luck to all the winning #5 seeded teams on moving on!

The first semifinals of either class will be played this evening, in 3A.

In the upper bracket it will be #1 Luverne vs. #5 Mankato West. Everyone has Luverne advancing to the final, so for some it'll be a matter of who can get the score right. I say "for some" because only 4 of 12 had Mankato West advancing to this game, having believed it would instead be the forth-seeded Marshall Tigers.

The lower bracket has #3 Fairmont playing #2 Mankato East. Here everyone had these two teams advancing to this game, so all are eligible for both the 3 points for picking the winner and the 2 bonus points for predicting the score. However, should Fairmont win, it'll be goose eggs all around because EVERYONE has Mankato East advancing to the final (vs. Luverne). A little surprising in that NEARLY everyone (10 of 12) has it as either a one or two goal game.

Section 3A semifinals:

#1 Luverne 5, #5 Mankato West 1
Mariah Aukes' hat trick led top seeded Luverne over Mankato West.

Everyone had the Cardinals advancing to the section championship game, and we had our first correct score, by none other than massalsa!

#3 Fairmont 6, #2 Mankato East 1
Jalyssa Wilson scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Cardinals over the Scarlets. In goal Sadie Sandersfeld stopped 36 of 37 shots that Mankato East put on net. Faimont advances to face top-seeded Luverne in Tuesday's Section 3A Championship game.

A big upset according to our normally esteemed panel as nobody forecasted a Fairmont victory, let alone one by 5 goals.

Standings headed into tomorrow's huge slate of games:

1. massalsa - 34

2. mnhockey3535 - 31
MNHockeyFan - 31
cjmhockey19 - 31
hugo_lucas - 31

Section 1A

1A Semifinal – Upper Bracket
#1 Northfield 2, Austin 1

1A Semifinal – Lower Bracket
#3 Owatonna 4, #2 Red Wing 3 (OT)

Notes:
(1) Everyone had top-seeded Northfield going to the final, but 9 of 12 had them meeting Faribault, not Austin. No correct scores amongst the 3 who didn’t.
(2) HUGE upset, at least for ALL of us “experts” here! ;) Especially bad news for the 9 of us who had the Wingers winning the section… :(

1A Final
#1 Northfield vs. #3 Owatonna @7:00pm on February 11 at Owatonna Four Seasons Center

Section 2A

2A Semifinal – Upper Bracket
#1 New Prague 6, #4 New Ulm 1

2A Semifinal – Lower Bracket
#2 Mound Westonka 1, #3 Orono 0

Notes:
(1) 11 of 13 predicted New Prague would advance to the final, but 3 had them beating #5 Hutchinson to get there. We did have a correct score in this 6-1 game: nice call by massalsa!
(2) All but one predicted the White Hawks would prevail, but nobody guessed it would be such a low-scoring affair.

2A Final
#1 New Prague vs. #2 Mound-Westonka @7:00pm on February 11 at Gustavus Adolphus College

With his savvy predictions and a correct score, massalsa builds on his lead in our updated Leaderboard through 2/6/16:

1. massalsa - 45

2. mnhockey3535 - 40
MNHockeyFan - 40
cjmhockey19 - 40
hugo_lucas - 40

The Section 8A semifinals, originally scheduled for tonight, were for some reason (weather?) moved to tomorrow. So only two games played on this Monday evening, which determined the two teams that are moving on to the 7A Final:

Section 7A

7A Semifinal – Upper Bracket
#1 Proctor/Hermantown 6, #5 Moose Lake-Willow River 1

7A Semifinal – Lower Bracket
#3 Hibbing/Chisholm 4, #2 Duluth Marshall 1

Notes:
(1) The Mirage moving to the final was no surprise to anyone in our contest. In fact, all 13 have them winning the section on Thursday and going to St. Paul. Two had this 6-1 game at 5-1, and another had it 6-2, but no one got it exactly right.
(2) 9 of 13 were wise enough to pick the third-seeded Bluejackets over the second-seeded Hilltoppers....count me among the 4 in the other group. :(
The majority included mnhockey3535, who also correctly predicted the 4-1 score.

7A Final
#1 Proctor/Hermantown vs. #3 Hibbing/Chisholm on February 11 at Duluth Heritage Sports Arena

Getting both games tonight right - plus adding the two bonus points - enabled mnhockey3535 to jump into a first place tie with massalsa, who was one of the four who missed the Hibbing/Chisholm-Duluth Marshall game.

1. mnhockey3535 - 48
massalsa - 48

3. cjmhockey19 - 46
hugo_lucas - 46

5. sinbin - 45

6. wolfman - 44
spars46 - 44

8. MNHockeyFan - 43
puckdreams - 43

10. Knight7 - 42

Big day tomorrow!

3A Championship
#1 Luverne vs. #3 Fairmont

4A Semifinals
#1 St. Paul United vs. #5 Henry Sibley
#3 South St. Paul vs. #2 Mahtomedi

5A Semifinals
#1 Blake vs. #4 Totino-Grace
#3 Princeton vs. #2 Breck

6A Semifinals
#1 Alexandria vs. #5 Northern Lakes
#3 Prairie Center vs. #2 Fergus Falls

8A Semifinals

Subject to change after a final review:

3A
Section Championship
#1 Luverne 5, #3 Fairmont 2

Note: Congratulations to the Tigers on being the first team to win their section and advance to State! A result that everyone in our group predicted; we just had them playing Mankato East to get there, which precluded any correct scores.

4A

4A Semifinals - Upper Bracket
#1 St. Paul United 9, #5 Henry Sibley 1

4A Semifinals – Lower Bracket
#3 South St. Paul 3, #2 Mahtomedi 1

Notes:
(1) The United move on as expected by all here. Only mnhockey3535 had a shot at the score as everyone else had them playing Simley in this semi. He had it at 6-1 which was a pretty good guess…
(2) The majority – 8 of 13 – had the 3rd seeded Packers advancing over the 2nd seeded Zephyrs. Some good attempts at the score, but not quite…

4A Final
#1 St. Paul United vs. #3 South St. Paul @7:30pm on 2/11/16 at St. Thomas Arena

5A

5A Semifinals – Upper Bracket
#1 Blake 8, #4 Totino-Grace 2

5A Semifinals – Lower Bracket
#3 Princeton 2, #2 Breck 6

Notes:
(1) Blake advancing to the section final didn’t surprise anyone. But none of the 6 who had them playing Totino-Grace got the 8-2 score.
(2) And likewise everyone had Breck advancing to meet their main rival Blake. But here we had two getting the score right to pick up an extra two points: nice call by mnhockey3535 and cjmhockey19.

5A Final
#1 Blake vs. # 2 Breck @7:30pm on 2/11/16 at

6A

6A Semifinals – Upper Bracket
#1 Alexandria 4, #5 Northern Lakes 1

6A Semifinals – Lower Bracket
#3 Prairie Center 2, #2 Fergus Falls 3

Notes:
(1) All 10 had Alex moving to the final, but only two – cjmhockey19 and The Bone – had them playing and beating Northern Lakes to get there. Neither, however, guessed the score.
(2) All but 1 had the Otters winning, and on this one we had two correct scores: puckdreams and The Bone. Nice!

6A Final
#1 Alexandria vs. #2 Fergus Falls @7:00pm on 2/11/16 at MAC St. Cloud

8A

8A Semifinals – Upper Bracket
#1 Warroad 10, #4 Detroit Lakes 1

8A Semifinals – Lower Bracket
#3 East Grand Forks 0, #2 Thief River Falls 5

Notes:
(1) No surprise as everyone saw this for the mismatch that it turned out to be. No correct scores, but three did have the Warriors scoring 8.
(2) Three points for all as the unanimous prediction of #1 meeting #2 in the final will come true. But again no correct scores as everyone had the Green Wave scoring at least 1.

8A Final
#1 Warroad vs. #2 Thief River Falls @7:00pm on 2/11/16 at REA Thief River Falls

And in our contest we have mnhockey3535 taking over sole possession of 1st Place, with both cjmhockey19 and massalsa right on his heels, just two points behind:

1. mnhockey3535 - 79

2. cjmhockey19 - 77
massalsa - 77

4. hugo_lucas - 75

5. puckdreams - 74

6. wolfman - 73
spars46 - 73

8. sinbin - 71

9. MNHockeyFan - 69 (barely avoiding the "One with..."

10. Knight7 - 68

11. One with 66

12. One with 64

13. One with 60

No Class A games on Wednesday, but all of the remaining section championships will be decided on Thursday the 11th. With each game worth 5 points (and 7 with a correct score) this thing is far from over!

1A – Northfield vs. Owatonna
2A – New Prague vs. Mound Westonka
4A – St. Paul United vs. South St. Paul
5A – Blake vs. Breck
6A – Alexandria vs. Fergus Falls
7A – Proctor/Hermantown vs. Hibbing/Chisholm
8A – Warroad vs. Thief River Falls

Best of luck to all the players and coaches!

Interesting tidbits prior to this evening's section final games:

- All eight of the No. 1 seeds advanced to their section final
- But four of the No. 2 seeds did not advance to their final
- No team seeded lower than third advanced to their final

In the only section final played so far (3A) the No. 1 seed (Luverne) won and is going to State. Of the seven section finals being played tonight, it will be interesting to see how many of the top-seeded teams join them.

1A
#3 Owatonna vs. #1 Northfield

2A
#2 Mound Westonka vs. #1 New Prague

4A
#3 South St. Paul vs. #1 St. Paul United

5A
#2 Breck vs. #1 Blake

6A
#2 Fergus Falls vs. #1 Alexandria

7A
#3 Hibbing/Chisholm vs. #1 Proctor/Hermantown

8A
#2 Thief River Falls vs. #1 Warroad

Breck and Blake are all knotted up at 2-2 at the end of two. Shots dead even at 16-16. Whichever team wins this game will in all likelihood get the No. 1 seed in the State Tournament and have a good chance of winning it, so the outcome is huge.

Warroad beat Breck earlier this year. I'm not sure if there were any significant injuries for either team during that game or not but could be worth noting.

6A
#2 Fergus Falls 0, #1 Alexandria 4
McKenzie Revering scored twice to lead Alex to a 4-0 win over the Otters. Shots were very even at 28-27, but Amy Jost was perfect in net to record the shutout.

11 of 13 had Alex winning, but nobody guessed the score.

1A
#3 Owatonna 1, #1 Northfield 3
Brynn Puppe scored the tying goal in the 2nd period and the winner in the 3rd to lead the Raiders over the Huskies. Shots on goal favored Owatonna 26-19, but Mallory Tidona was solid in net with 25 saves.

Northfield advancing was a surprise to all but 3 in our group, as everyone else had Red Wing representing this section. In fact, nobody had Owatonna even making it to this game.
